@MWSUFootball finishes 11th in AFCA final poll

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State finished 11th in the final American Football Coaches' Association Poll of the 2017 season.

The Mustangs earned their eighth NCAA Division II playoff appearance while reeling off an 18th consecutive winning season which is the longest streak of any four-year scholarship program in the state of Texas.

The Mustangs are one of 12 teams out of Super Region Four to receive mention in the poll joining No. 1 Texas A&M-Commerce, No. 4 Minnesota State, No. 7 Central Washington, No. 15 Winona State (Minn.), No. 17 Colorado State-Pueblo and No. 20 Sioux Falls (S.D.) while Humboldt State (Calif.), Colorado Mesa, Eastern New Mexico, Minnesota-Duluth and Azusa Pacific (Calif.) received votes.

Texas A&M-Commerce became the first Lone Star Conference program to win an NCAA Division II national championship since 1981 to earn the No. 1 spot.

West Florida claimed the No. 2 ranking followed by Indiana (Pa.), Minnesota State and Ferris State to round out the first five.

Its the third straight season and fifth time the Mustangs finished the year ranked in the AFCA's final poll. MSU was 7th in 2011, 9th in 2015, 14th in 2009 and 24th in 2016. Midwestern received votes in the organization's final release in 2013.
