WICHITA FALLS, Texas – No. 21-ranked Midwestern State remained unbeaten this season with a 1-1 draw at Lubbock Christian and returns to Stang Park on Saturday night for a showdown with No. 12-ranked Texas Woman's at 7 p.m. The Pioneers have a nine-game winning streak and are tied with Dallas Baptist atop the LSC standings, two points ahead of the Mustangs.

Lexi Gonzales scored in the 56th minute at Lubbock Christian, but Midwestern State (8-0-1, 4-0-1) conceded a goal for the first time this season in the 63rd minute. The Mustangs are still on pace to match the best start in program history. The 2009 team was 9-0-1 to start the season.

Midwestern State outshot LCU, 17-9, and put six shots on frame, while the Chaps managed just three shots on goal. An MSU opponent has not put more than five shots on goal in the last 28 games.

Midwestern State has a 25-game unbeaten streak at Stang Park. The last home loss came against Dallas Baptist on Oct. 21 of 2023. The Patriots 3-1 win at Stang Park was 1,071 days ago. The Mustangs have a seven-game winning streak on home ground since their 1-1 draw with UT Tyler on Oct. 26 of last year. MSU is 5-0-0 as the hosts this season.

Since the final two home games of the 2023 season, Midwestern State is 21-0-4 at Stang Park.

Gonzales leads the Stangs with 14 points from five goals and four assists. Sloane Sullivan is second on the team with nine points from three goals and three assists.

Fourteen Mustangs have scored a goal this season. Madison Brinkley, McKynzi Hailey, Ashlynn Knight, Binky Mendez and Bella Pillow have each scored two goals this season. 

Seven players have scored one goal, including Leeci Snyder, who is tied with Gonzales for the team lead in assists with four. Brinkley registered her third assist at Lubbock Christian, and five players have assisted on two goals for MSU. Five Mustangs have one assist. 

Midwestern State is seventh in the nation and second in the conference with three assists per game. MSU has scored the second most goals in the LSC with 25, which is 12th-most in the nation. The Mustangs are scoring 2.78 goals per game, which is the third highest average in the conference and 17th among Division II programs.

Goalkeeper Lauren Short is tied for the D2 lead with seven shutouts, and she has one combined shutout. Tanner Sorenson played the second half in an 8-0 win over Eastern New Mexico. Short has made 16 saves in eight starts this season. She has made two or fewer saves in seven of her nine appearances for the Mustangs. She made a season-high four saves in a 1-0 win over Central Oklahoma.

Short has the second-best save percentage in the conference at .941 and her goals-against average of 0.12 is second in the league. 

Midwestern State leads the all-time series with TWU, 18-10-7. The Mustangs are 0-1-2 in the last three meetings.  Bri Luna scored in the 46th minute, and the Pioneers defeated MSU in the Lone Star Conference Women's Soccer Championship semifinals last year, 1-0, snapping a 16-game unbeaten streak for the Mustangs.

Midwestern State is 11-2-2 when hosting TWU, which makes its first visit to Stang Park since suffering a 1-0 loss in September of 2023. The last two regular season encounters at Pioneer Soccer Park have resulted in 2-2 draws. Giselle Gutierrez pulled the Pioneers even with the Mustangs at 2-2 last season with a goal in the 82nd minute. Midwestern State scored twice in the first half, but Alyssa Striker made it a one-goal game with a goal in the 69th minute for the Pioneers.

Texas Woman's (9-0-0, 5-0-0) has not allowed a goal in its last seven matches and is coming off a 1-0 victory over St. Mary's. Lauren Wade scored her fourth goal — and her third game-winning goal — of the season in the 35th minute as TWU outshot the Rattlers, 19-9.

Faith Graves made five saves in the win over St. Mary's on Wednesday. Graves has seven shutouts and one combined shutout this season. The junior from Rockwall, Texas, has 19 saves. She leads the LSC with a .947 save percentage and a 0.11 goals-against average. 

The Pioneers are 5-0-0 on the road this season and has outscored their hosts 15-1 this season. Hawaii Pacific scored against TWU in a 4-1 loss at Honolulu ion Aug. 30. TWU has the sixth-best goal differential in the NCAA Division II at plus-20.

Wade leads the team with and is 11th in the conference with nine points (4G, 1A). Gutierrez (3G, 2A) has eight points for the Pioneers. Gutierrez, Jaida Arizmendi and Concepcion Maya have both scored three goals this season. Luna has two goals and three assists. Striker has a goal and a team-leading four assists for the Pioneers.

Midwestern State hosts Oklahoma Christian on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. The first 250 fans at Stang Park during "Maroon Week" receive an MSU drink koozie sponsored by Pepsi.
