LUBBOCK, Texas – Lubbock Christian snapped Midwestern State's streak of eight consecutive clean sheets, scoring a goal in the 63rd minute to earn a 1-1 draw with the No. 21-ranked Mustangs at LCU Soccer & Track Complex on Wednesday night.
Lexi Gonzales scored her fifth goal of the season on a ball whipped in from the left side by Madison Brinkley in the 56th minute, giving Midwestern State (8-0-1) a 1-0 lead. Brinkley got her third assist of the season.
Sydney Smith scored on the Lady Chaps' third and final shot on goal.
Lubbock Christian (5-1-3) was outshot in the second half, 11-4. Lauren Short made both of her saves in the first half for the Mustangs.
For the game, Midwestern State had the advantage in shots, 17-9, and put six of its shots on frame.
Emma Wright made five saves on the night for the Lady Chaps and punched out two potential game-winning shots.
Binky Mendez had a shot labeled for the top center of the net in the 67th minute, and Leeci Snyder was denied on a blast from the right side after a Bella Rose attempt was blocked in the 86th minute.
Midwestern State had 11 corner kicks — seven more than the Lady Chaps. LCU did not have a corner kick in the second half.
Eleven of the 16 fouls called in the game were called against Midwestern State.
Midwestern State saw an eight-game winning streak snapped but remains unbeaten entering its match against No. 12 ranked Texas Woman's at Stang Park on Saturday at 7 p.m.
