WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State women's tennis is making its 13th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship and its 25th appearance overall. The Mustangs host Lone Star Conference rival Angelo State in a South Central preliminary dual. Midwestern State is the No. 2 seed in the region. First serve at MSU Tennis Center is scheduled for Friday at 1 p.m. The winner advances to the 16-team finals, May 19-23 in Surprise, Arizona.
Midwestern State has a six-dual winning streak since suffering a 4-3 loss at UT Tyler on April 11. The Mustangs avenged that defeat with a 4-2 victory over the Patriots in the final of the 2026 LSC Women's Tennis Championship. UT Tyler is the No. 1-seed in the South Central Region and is hosting Lubbock Christian for a berth in the 16-team final.
Alessia Dolce clinched the first LSC tournament championship for Midwestern State since 2019 with a 0-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over Carla Rodier at No. 4 singles. Dolce extended her winning streak to 10 matches and improved to 16-6 for the season with a 12-3 record at the No. 4 position.
Emilia Gyorgy, who clinched the 4-0 win over Cameron in the semifinals, was named the LSC Women's Tennis Championship Most Valuable Player and was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Dolce, Selin Sepken and Camila Garcia.
Gyorgy defeated Natalia Gorzny of UT Tyler at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-3, for her fourth consecutive win without dropping a set. The freshman from Hungary won 15 of her last 17 singles matches and is 17-6 in singles this spring.
Sepken, ranked No. 8 by the ITA and the Lone Star Conference Singles Player of the Year, was engaged in a three-set battle with No.-9 ranked Yona Bancarel when Dolce clinched the championship for Midwestern State. The fifth-year senior from Turkey has a five-match winning streak and is 18-2 this spring.
Garcia won her 13th consecutive match and improved to 18-6 for the season with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Maria Antonio Ortega of UT Tyler at No. 3 singles on Saturday.
Dolce and Hattie Berend secured the all-important doubles point against the Patriots with a 7-6 (6) win over Rodier and Hailey Zhang. It took 70 minutes to win the set, but the duo earned their fourth-straight win and improved to 13-2 at No. 3 doubles.
Sepken and Gyorgy won their ninth consecutive match at No. 2 doubles and improved to 18-6 for the season with a resounding 6-1 victory over Maria Antonio Ortega and Paula Castellanos.
Jasmine Crain and Garcia are 19-4 in doubles this season. The duo started the season with 14 consecutive wins at No. 2 doubles but have started at No. 1 doubles in the last nine duals.
Crain is 12-10 in singles this season with nine wins at No. 5 singles. The freshman from San Antonio had a four-match winning streak snapped with a 3-6, 4-6 loss to Paula Castellanos in the LSC Women's Tennis Championship final against UT Tyler.
Berend won five of her last seven matches at No. 6 singles during the regular season, and the junior from Wichita Falls is 8-5 since earning her first win of the season with a 2-6, 6-4, (10-5) victory over Emmy Zsigmondof McKendree on March 14. Berend appeared in two doubles matches last season, but did not play after Feb. 8 due to injury. She missed the first seven duals this season, including exhibitions, before returning to action against West Alabama on Feb. 27.
Midwestern State is 93-39 in singles this season and boasts a 52-15 record in doubles, including a 23-1 record at No. 2 doubles. The Mustangs have taken the doubles point in 20 of 24 duals this season.
Angelo State is 5-3 in head-to-head meetings with the Mustangs but four of the wins have come at ASU Tennis Center, where the Rambelles pulled out a 4-3 victory against Midwestern State earlier this season. Angelo State is 1-3 at MSU Tennis Center, losing its last two visits, including a 5-2 loss last season.
Garcia clinched the victory for the Mustangs with a with a 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 victory over Avery Durham at No. 5 singles.
Margaux Rene and Benedetta Raggiotti are the two players still with the Rambelles from last year's team, and the No. 13-ranked doubles pairing in NCAA Division II defeated No. 10-ranked Gyorgy and Sepken at No. 1 singles, 6-0, in the dual match on March 28.
The Mustangs won the doubles point as Crain and Garcia defeated Danai Amangazhiyeva and Vasilis Kupriianova at No. 2 doubles, 6-4.
Berend and Dolce secured the first point of the dual with a 7-5 win over Sasa Felixova and Anna Wache at No. 3 doubles.
Wache defeated Berend at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-2, and the victory pulled the Rambelles even with MSU, 1-1.
No. 32- ranked Kupriianova was able to handle Gyorgy at No. 2 singles 7-5, 6-0 as the Rambelles took a 2-1 lead in the dual.
Sepken defeated No. 37-ranked Rene at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 6-2, as Midwestern State tied the dual match, 2-2. Garcia put MSU in front of the Rambelles with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Amangazhiyeva at No. 3 singles.
Raggiotti posted a 6-3, 7-5 win over Dolce at No. 4 singles to pull the Rambelles even at 3-3. Dolce followed that loss by winning her next 18 sets for the Mustangs.
Sasa Felixova rallied past Crain at No. 5 singles to clinch the victory for Angelo State, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1.
Felixova leads the Rambelles with a 22-2 record in singles with 14 wins coming in the No 5 spot. The freshman from Slovakia is 8-1 in conference duals. She is 3-0 at No. 4 singles and 5-0 at No. 6 singles. She has a five-match winning streak since losing to Rodier of UT Tyler, 1-6, 4-6, on April 18.
Raggiotti, a sophomore from Italy, is 21-2, going 8-0 at No. 3 singles and 13-2 in the No. 4 position. She won seven of her last eight matches for the Rambelles.
Amangazhiyeva has a seven-match winning streak since losing to Garcia at No. 3 singles, and she is 19-2 for the Rambelles, including a 7-0 record at No. 2 singles, where she played in seven of the first nine duals for the Rambelles. Amangazhiyeva won 12 of 14 matches in the No. 3 position.
Rene played No. 1 singles in 21 of 25 duals for Angelo State, and she is 13-8 with a 5-5 record against conference opponents.
Kupriianova is 11-3 this season, winning 10 of 13 matches at No. 2 singles and taking eight of her 10 matches against LSC opponents this spring.
Wache has played all six positions in singles and is 17-5. The freshman from France is 9-1 in LSC duals with a 7-2 record at No. 6 singles and a 4-0 mark at No. 5 singles.
Wache suffered a 0-6, 4-6, loss to Castellanos of UT Tyler in the semifinals of the LSC Women's Tennis Championship, which clinched the 4-3 semifinal dual-match victory for the Patriots.
Angelo State is 119-27 in singles and won the doubles point in 14 of 25 duals this season with a 47-25 record in doubles matches.
