Top-ranked Tyler JC upends Mustangs

TYLER, Texas – No. 19-ranked Midwestern State faced the junior college team ranked No. 1 in men's tennis on Wednesday afternoon at JoAnn Medlock Murphy Tennis Center, and Tyler Junior College emerged victorious, 5-2.

Tyler JC improved to 3-1 against Lone Star Conference opponents this year. The Apaches defeated UT Tyler, 4-3, and edged Cameron, 4-3, in February. Lubbock Christian prevailed in its encounter with Tyler JC, 4-0, and the Mustangs open conference play against the Chaparrals at MSU Tennis Center on April 3.

Tyler Junior College improved to 10-4 this season and improved to 6-2 at home this season.

Midwestern State saw a four-dual winning streak come to an end and fell to 8-4 this season with a 1-3 record in away duals.

Tyler JC swept the doubles to gain the early advantage in the dual match.  Enrico Franchi and Alejandro Pardo upended Matthew Earle and Germano Setti, 6-2.

Ties De Regt and Ouga Miyazaki defeated Juan David Duque and Jose Marquez, 6-4, while Bruno Sanchez and Cesar Loeches Llamas fell to Daniel Marincas and William De Waal, 6-2.

Macinas, the No. 1-ranked JUCO singles player, scored a 6-1, 6-3 victory over No. 16-ranked Germano Setti at No. 1 singles.

Pardo is ranked No. 20 among JUCO singles players, and he found his way past Earle at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-4.

Juan David Duque got the Mustangs on the scoreboard with a 6-4, 6-3 win over De Regt at No. 4 singles.

Marquez earned the second dual-match point for MSU with a match tiebreak triumph over Luka Van Geel, No. 5 in the JUCO singles rankings, 5-7, 6-2, 10-7. 

No. 23-ranked Toby Eyrl Collins knocked off Tomas Leguizamon at No. 6 singles, 6-4, 6-4, to clinch the win for the Apaches, who lead the all-time series, 11-2.

William De Waal won a match tiebreak to slip past Sanchez at No. 2 singles, 6-7 (4), 7-5, 10-6.

Midwestern State hosts its first LSC dual against Lubbock Christian on April 3. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m.
