WICHITA FALLS, Texas – No. 27-ranked Midwestern State (6-3) won its first non-exhibition dual match of the season at home on Friday morning, defeating No. 31-ranked Harding at MSU Tennis Center, 4-2, for its fourth win in the last five duals.
Harding had a three-dual winning streak snapped and is 1-3 against Lone Star Conference opponents this season. The Bisons defeated UT Permian Basin and fell to both UT Tyler and Lubbock Christian before meeting the Mustangs. Harding is 8-3 in the dual-match season.
No. 8-ranked Germano Setti clinched the dual-match victory as he rallied for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Adrian Solorzano at No.1 singles. Setti improved to 6-1 for the season with all seven starts coming at No. 1 singles.
Setti and Matthew Earle improved to 7-1 at No. 2 doubles, but the Mustangs had to win four singles matches after dropping the doubles point to the Bisons. Setti and Earle defeated Florian Gayme and Jan Alexander Has, 6-4.
Jose Marquez earned his third consecutive singles win with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Clan Mikkelson at No. 3 singles. The senior is 3-1 at No. 3 singles and 6-3 overall in singles this season.
Juan David Duque won seven-straight points in a first-set tiebreak and went on to defeat Alexander Has at No. 4 singles, 7-6 (0), 6-1. Duque is 5-4 in singles this season and won three of his last four matches at No. 4 singles.
Tomas Leguizamon won a rollercoaster match at No. 6 singles, pulling away from Gayme for a 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 victory. The freshman from Colombia earned his first collegiate triumph in his third completed match of the season.
Sebastian De Las Salas teamed with Edoardo D'Arrigo to defeat Duque and Marquez at No. 3 doubles, securing the first point of the day for the Bisons. De Las Salas was responsible for Harding's second point when he bested Bruno Sanchez at No. 2 singles, 7-5, 6-3. Sanchez, who was coming off a three-set win at Northeastern State on Thursday, is 3-3 at No. 2 singles with a 5-3 record overall in singles.
The Mustangs are back on the court Saturday morning to face McKendree at MSU Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 9 a.m.
