WICHITA FALLS, Texas – No. 12-ranked Midwestern State Is scheduled to play four dual matches in five days. The Mustangs travel to Northeastern State in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, on Thursday to play the Riverhawks at 2 p.m. On Friday, Harding visits the MSU Tennis Center for a dual match that begins at 1 p.m., and McKendree tangles with the home-standing Stangs on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Mustangs will have an off day on Sunday before hosting Hillsdale at MSU Tennis Center on Monday morning at 10 a.m.
Midwestern State (4-3) lost three of its last four dual matches, but all three losses came against teams in the ITA Collegiate Rankings top five. No. 1-ranked West Florida, and No. 3-ranked West Alabama defeated the Mustangs at the Lone Star Conference/Gulf South Conference crossover event in Tyler, Texas.
Prior to that event, No. 5-ranked Washburn scored a 4-2 victory on its home court in Topeka, Kansas, at end of a three-dual road trip for MSU.
The Mustangs earned a 5-2 win over then No. 25-ranked Auburn Montgomery at the LSC/GSC crossover, clinching the victory when
Alessia Dolce dispatched Ana Clara Campigotto at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-1.
No. 3-ranked
Selin Sepken is 5-1 at No. 1 singles for MSU with her only defeat coming against No. 11-ranked Carlota Verdu of West Florida, 6-2, 3-6, 5-7.
Sepken and
Emilia Gyorgy, No. 19 in the ITA doubles rankings, are 5-2 at No. 1 doubles for the Mustangs, including a 6-1 victory over Sandra Recuenco Tarin and Carlota Verdu of West Florida.
Midwestern State won the doubles point in six of its seven dual matches this season. West Alabama is the only opponent that managed to take the doubles point from the formidable MSU pairings, which are 15-5 overall.
Gyorgy is 3-4 at No. 2 singles for the Mustangs with one loss to No. 6-ranked Alexa Milliam of West Alabama, 6-4, 3-6, 4-6. She also lost a 10-8 match tiebreak to Fabiana Gamboa of Nebraska Kearney.
Camila Garcia is 6-1 at No. 3 singles, suffering her first loss of the season to Aline Midori of West Florida, 3-6, 6-2, 0-6.
Garcia and
Jasmine Crain are 7-0 at No. 2 doubles, and the duo only conceded more than three games in two matches.
Crain has played six matches at No. 4 singles with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Laura Prieto Sieiro of Northwest Missouri State. In her only appearance at No. 5 singles, Crain pushed Kylie Kochis of West Florida to three sets but fell to 6-2, 4-6, 6-7 (5).
Dolce is 3-2 at No. 5 singles but played in the No. 4 spot against West Florida and fell to Guadalupe Martinez, 2-6, 3-6.
Dolce has played alongside both
Hattie Berend and
Mala Krzanic-Sullivan at No. 3 doubles and is 3-3 with an unfinished match against West Florida.
NORTHEASTERN STATE
Midwestern State won its last three meetings with the Riverhawks, including a 4-0 victory in Edmond, Oklahoma, last year. Garcia is the only player on the current roster that played in that dual match. Northeastern State leads the all-time series, 19-7, and won all four meetings in Tahlequah, Okla., but the Mustangs have not visited the NSU Tennis Complex since 2016.
The Riverhawks are 5-2 with a five-dual winning streak, but the Riverhawks were defeated in exhibition at NSU Tennis Complex by North Dakota on Sunday.
Renata Morales boasts a 3-1 record at No. 1 singles, and the sophomore from Bolivia has won her last three matches in straight sets.
Sofia Kotliarova is 4-0 at No. 2 singles since taking over the role in a 5-2 dual-match victory over UT Permian Basin. She has gone the distance in one match during that span, and she defeated Emilia Nowak of Henderson State, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.
Daisy Barrow is 5-2 at No. 3 singles, winning her last three matches in straight sets.
Laura Mertens, a freshman from Germany, is 6-1 at No. 4 singles with her only loss coming to Adiya Abdugappar of Henderson State, 6-3, 2-6, 2-6.
Lucia Botempo from Argentina won her last two singles matches in the No. 5 position for the Riverhawks, and she has combined with Carla Clavarez Perez of Spain for four victories at No. 6 singles. Botempo has a four-match winning streak.
The Riverhawks won the doubles point in each of their last four duals, sweeping Henderson State and Colorado State-Pueblo. The team is 11-5 in its 16 doubles matches played this season.
HARDING
Midwestern State lost its first-ever meeting with Harding in 1997 but won its last four encounters with the Bisons, including a 5-2 victory in Stillwater, Oklahoma, last year, when Garcia posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Ece Boylu at No. 5 singles and teamed up with
Hannah Yip for a 6-4 win over Karli Roux and Alexia Zarate Valdez at No. 1 doubles.
Harding meets Central Oklahoma before visiting Midwestern State but lost its two previous dual matches, falling to 2-4 to start the season.
The Bisons are 1-2 against opponents from the Lone Star Conference this season. Harding edged UT Permian Basin, 4-3, but lost to UT Tyler, 6-1, and fell to Lubbock Christian, 6-1.
No. 44-ranked Karli Roux leads the Bisons with a 4-2 record at No. 1 singles, and she is 5-1 at No. 1 doubles alongside Brooke Coffman. The pairing is No. 4 in the latest ITA rankings. IT Harding won the doubles point twice in its first six dual matches and is 11-24 in singles matches this season.
McKENDREE
Midwestern State won its only previous dual match against McKendree, 6-1, at MSU Tennis Center in 2024.
The Bearcats visit Cameron and UT Dallas before facing the Mustangs on Saturday, but they are coming off back-to-back wins over Purdue Northwest and Quincy, improving their record to 6-5 this season.
McKendree has one common opponent with the Mustangs at this juncture of the season. Washburn defeated the Bearcats, 7-0, in Topeka.
Freshman Kristina Bogomazova made her first appearance at No. 1 singles for the Bearcats against Quincy but lost to Mahi Panchal, 5-7, 2-6. Senior Lena Greefs posted a 2-6 record at No. 1 singles.
The Bearcats roster has six freshman, three sophomores, and two seniors.
HILLSDALE
Midwestern State meets the Chargers for the first time in program history.
Hillsdale won its first five dual matches of the season before a 5-2 loss at Ferris State, followed by back-to-back 4-3 losses to Davenport and Wayne State (Mich.).
The Chargers ended their three-dual skid with a 6-1 win over Roosevelt.
Ane Dannhauser has a personal seven-match winning streak at No. 1 singles snapped with 3-6, 5-7 loss to Malak Arafat of Wayne State. Sophomore Brianna Rees played No. 1 singles against Roosevelt and defeated Sophie Christie, 3-6, 7-6 (2), 6-2.
Dannhauser is 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, playing primarily with Megan Hackman, but she did pair with Rees in a win over Davenport on Feb. 22.
Hillsdale competes in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference and is located in south-central Michigan.
