TYLER, Texas – Jose Marquez posted a 6-3, 7-5 victory over No. 19-ranked Rafael Sabio of West Florida at No. 3 singles, but the second-ranked Argonauts won their dual match with No. 24-ranked Midwestern State, 6-1.
Midwestern State fell to 4-3, while West Florida won its fourth straight dual and improved to 7-1.
Germano Setti and Matthew Earle won a fifth straight match in doubles, defeating Mark Neyelov and Samuel Vidales at No. 2 doubles, 6-2, but the Argonauts earned the point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
Setti, ranked No. 7 in singles, suffered his first singles loss of the dual-match season, winning the first set in a tiebreak before Sebastian Rondon rallied for a 6-7 (9), 6-3, 6-3 victory.
Diego Duran, No. 2 in ITA Division II singles rankings, defeated Bruno Sanchez at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-2. Sanchez played three sets in singles matches against West Alabama and Auburn Montgomery on Friday and Saturday.
Mateo Martinez managed his way to a 6-3, 6-2 win over Juan David Duque at No. 4 singles. Duque won a straight-set decision at No. 4 singles against Auburn Montgomery on Saturday.
Earle forced a match tiebreak at No. 5 singles but was edged out by Vicente Couto, 3-6, 6-2, 10-8.
Tomas Leguizamon got the start at No. 6 singles on Sunday and lost a tight two-set match to Vidales, 4-6, 6-7 (5).
The Mustangs visit Southeastern Oklahoma State on Friday for a dual match scheduled to begin at noon in Durant, Oklahoma.
