WICHITA FALLS, Texas – With a lengthy road trip looming, Midwestern State wasted little time defeating Collin College, 4-1, on a windy Thursday afternoon at MSU Tennis Center.
Emilia Gyorgy clinched the victory with a 6-3, 6-1 conquest at No. 2 singles, needing just 61 minutes to defeat Marie-Alix Urcun.
The Mustangs opened the day by claiming the doubles point as
Camila Garcia and
Jasmine Crain eased their way to a 6-0 win over Nobuhle Zungu and Emma Garcia-Gomez.
Alessia Dolce and
Mala Krzanic-Sullivan clinched the point with a 6-3 triumph over Mii Naito and Nao Watanabe.
Crain held a 3-2 lead at No. 3 singles when Zungu retired from the match after 30 minutes.
No. 10-ranked
Selin Sepken posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles, defeating Marqaylar Tere in a one-hour match.
Dolce held a 6-4, 2-1 lead over Watanabe at No. 4 singles, and Krzanic-Sullivan led Emma Garcia at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 4-1, when the Mustangs clinched the victory.
Naito earned the only point for the Cougars with a 6-0, 6-4 win over
Ana Maria Podrug at No. 6 singles.
The Mustangs made the trek to Kearney, Nebraska, at the conclusion of the dual to face Nebraska Kearney and Rockhurst over the next two days. On Sunday, the Mustangs visit No. 11-ranked Washburn in Topeka, Kansas.
