Second half surge carries Javelinas to 85-78 win over Midwestern State

WICHITA FALLS, Texas — Midwestern State (8-15, 6-10) fell to Texas A&M-Kingsville (12-12, 9-7) 85-78 on Saturday afternoon. MSU held a 42-31 lead at halftime, but Texas A&M-Kingsville surged with a 54-point second half to earn their first win in six years at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

The game began with Allen Singleton hitting a three-pointer for Texas A&M-Kingsville, setting an early lead. The Mustangs responded with Jonathan Jackson's three-pointer at the 18:32 mark, narrowing the gap to 4-3. Orlando Horton Jr. then added another three-pointer, helping the Maroon & Gold take the lead. Texas A&M-Kingsville managed to stay competitive with Daniel Sanchez contributing a three-pointer, but MSU maintained control. Jackson emerged as a key player, ending the half with a three-pointer at 0:38, contributing to the Mustangs' 42-31 advantage at the end of the first half.

In the second half, Texas A&M-Kingsville's offense surged with Sanchez hitting a trio of early 3-pointers, helping the team narrow the gap against Midwestern State Midway through the half, Terrance Ramirez responded with a critical 3-pointer to keep MSU ahead, but Singleton's layup tied the game at 61 with 6:45 remaining. A&M-Kingsville seized momentum with a 3-pointer from Jadon Sautter at the 3:33 mark, propelling it into the lead. Despite a late push by the Mustangs, including a 3-pointer by Ramirez, Texas A&M-Kingsville nailed down the victory with consecutive free throws by Nate Garcia and Bryson Goldsmith, closing the game 85-78.
