WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State won its home opener over Seward County Community College in convincing fashion on Wednesday afternoon at MSU Tennis Center. The Mustangs won the dual-match, 7-0, sweeping doubles and dropping only one set in the six singles matches.
Mala Krzanic-Sullivan and
Alessia Dolce set the tone with a 6-1 victory over Salma Achik and Maria Eduardo Parise in a mere 18 minutes at No. 3 doubles.
Just 10 minutes later,
Emilia Gyorgy and
Selin Sepken clinched the point with a 6-1 triumph over Rosaline Akombo and Mishel Lobotenko at No. 1 doubles.
Jasmine Crain and
Camila Garcia completed the sweep in doubles with a 6-3 win over Paula Elena Oborocea and Patricia Sazambile at Line 2.
Crain secured the dual-match victory for the Mustangs in less than an hour and a half with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Oborocea at No. 3 singles.
Dolce finished off an efficient day on the courts with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at over Achik, winning Line 4 and posting the first singles point for the Mustangs in 54 minutes.
Twelve minutes later,
Camila Garcia Morales was shaking hands with Oborocea after a routine 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles.
Emilia Gyorgy played No. 1 singles for the Mustangs and was pushed to three sets but outlasted Lobotenko, 6-1, 3-6, 6-0.
Ana Maria Podrug coasted to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Parise at No. 6 singles, and
Mala Krzanic-Sullivan need less than an hour to dismiss Sazambile at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-3.
The Mustangs are next in action on Feb. 19, when Collin County Community College visits the MSU Tennis Center for a 1 p.m. dual match.
