WICHITA FALLS, Texas – No. 8-ranked Midwestern State plays its home opener of the dual-match season on Wednesday afternoon at the MSU Tennis Center. Seward County Community College will face the Mustangs, and the first serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Midwestern State has already posted convincing victories over Northwest Missouri State and Cowley County Community College as the team played two dual matches in Arkansas City, Kansas, last week.
The Mustangs reached the national semifinals last season after conquering the NCAA Division II South Central Regional. MSU defeated Rockhurst and Wayne State (Mich.) before succumbing to No. 2-ranked Nova Southeastern in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
The Mustangs lead the all-time series with Seward County, 4-1, but this is the first meeting between the two programs since Seward County prevailed at MSU Tennis Center in February of 2022, 4-3.

Midwestern State is No. 8 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason rankings, led by
Selin Sepken,
Camila Garcia and
Emilia Gyorgy.
Sepken leads the South Central region with a No. 1 ranking, while Gyorgy is No. 5 and Garcia is ranked sixth.
The Mustangs are just as strong in doubles, with three pairs of Mustangs in the top eight: Gyorgy and Garcia are No. 1, Sepken and
Hattie Berend are No. 6, while
Jasmine Crain and
Alessia Dolce are ranked eighth in the region.
Sepken was an automatic qualifier for the ITA Cup in singles last fall after winning the ITA DII Women's South Central Regional Championships in Tyler.
Emilia Gyorgy and
Camila Garcia earned an automatic bid in doubles.
Sepken did not drop a set in her six matches at the South Central Regional Championships three weeks ago. The native of Istanbul, Turkey, who transferred to MSU from Idaho as a graduate student, defeated Margaux Rene of Angelo State in the final, 6-0, 7-5.
Sepken completed her run at the 2025 ITA Cup with a 2-1 record after defeating Lilie Bizouerne of Queens (NY) and Vasilissa Kupriyanova of North Georgia. The transfer from Idaho lost her first-round match at the ITA Cup to Eleanor Coleman of Rockhurst, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.
Gyorgy and Garcia also went 2-1 in the doubles event. Gyorgy/Garcia defeated Rin Igarashi and Sofia Antolini of Catawba after posting a straight-set victory over Alissia Aleksandra Kivi and Nicole Kempton of Slippery Rock. The fourth-seeded pairing of Daniela Tijaro and Renske Ubachs from Washburn eliminated the MSU duo from the main draw in the opening round with a 3-6, 6-2, 10-4 victory.
Sepken had a memorable spring debut with a clinching 6-3, 6-4 win over Miru Nonaka at No. 1 singles.
Freshman
Jasmine Crain donned the Maroon and Gold for the first time in a dual match, and the right-hander from Edmond, Oklahoma, coasted to a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Laura Prieto Sieiro at No. 4 singles.
Sophomore
Alessia Dolce from Italy was pushed to a super tiebreak by Polina Gontraryk at No. 5 singles but prevailed after splitting the first two sets, 3-6, 6-4.
Sophomore
Camila Garcia, who anchored No. 5 singles in her freshman campaign, got stronger as her match progressed and rallied to beat Chiharu Ito at No. 3 singles, 2-6, 7-6 (4), 10-3.
Polina Agapitova pulled out a 6-3, 6-4 victory over MSU newcomer
Mala Krzanic-Sullivan at No. 6 singles.
The Mustangs swept doubles to earn the first point of the afternoon.
Garcia/Crain were first off the courts with a 6-4 triumph at No. 2 doubles over Chiharu/Nonaka.
Dolce/Krzanic-Sulllivan clinched the first point of the season with a 7-5 victory at No. 3 doubles.
Sepkin/Gyorgy defeated Agapitova and Michelle Kostadinova, 6-3, at No. 1 doubles.
Midwestern State defeated Cowley County Community College on Saturday, 5-2.
MSU won the doubles point decisively with wins across all courts.
The pair of
Emilia Gyorgy and
Selin Sepken claimed a 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles over Cynthia Wanjala and Naghely Garcia.
The No. 2 doubles team,
Jasmine Crain and
Camila Garcia, followed with a 6-2 win against Chiho Takada and Sofia Karlau.
Finishing the sweep,
Alessia Dolce and
Mala Krzanic-Sullivan took No. 3 doubles, 6-4, against Kendra Arostegui and Yu Hozumi.
In singles, the Mustangs extended their lead with Sepken's 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles over Wanjala.
Garcia added another point with a commanding 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles against Takada.
Gyorgy secured a straight-sets win at No. 2 singles, defeating N. Garcia 6-3, 6-4.
The Lady Tigers responded with Lisa Takamura's 6-4, 6-3 win over Crain at No. 4 singles and Hozumi's 6-3, 6-4 victory against Sullivan at No. 6 singles.
However, Dolce clinched the match for the Maroon & Gold with a 6-2, 7-6 (7) triumph over Arostegui at No. 5 singles.
Seward County finished last spring with a 4-4 record overall and was 1-4 on the road. The Lady Saints are coming off a 6-1 loss at Emporia State to begin their spring campaign.
Midwestern State has another dual-match scheduled for Feb. 19 against Collin County Community College.
