Mustangs host No. 7-ranked West Texas A&M

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State looks to snap a four-game losing streak as it hosts No. 7-ranked West Texas A&M at D.L. Ligon Coliseum on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
 
Midwestern State (4-9, 1-6) is coming off a 66-54 loss to Eastern New Mexico and fell to 2-5 at home this season.
 
Kerbie Cash finished with 21 points and 13 rebounds against the Greyhounds. Ta'Leeyah Glynn scored 13 points, and Carisa Cortez finished with nine points and eight rebounds for the Mustangs.
 
Cash is the leading scorer for Midwestern State with 15.3 points per game, and she is pulling down a team-leading 7.8 rebounds per game.
 
Glynn is the second-leading scorer for the Mustangs with 9.5 points per game, and she leads the team from 3-point range, hitting 14-of-37 shots (.378) from beyond the arc.
 
Macie Upshaw is shooting 50.9 percent from the field and scoring 5.1 points per game. Upshaw is the second-leading rebounder for MSU with 6.8 boards per game.
 
The Mustangs are the second-leading rebounding team in the Lone Star Conference with 40.3 rebounds per contest, and they are 14th among NCAA Division II programs with 16.7 offensive rebounds per game, which leads the league.
 
Midwestern State is third in the conference with 12.5 steals per game, led by Cash, Glynn, Upshaw and Sevier. Glynn leads the team with 2.0 steals per game, while Cash takes the ball away 1.9 times per game. Both Upshaw and Sevier are averaging more than 1.5 steals per game.
 
The Stangs are going to the free-throw line 23.9 times per game, which is third most in the LSC and 10th most in NCAA Division II. MSU is shooting 70.7 percent from the foul line, which is the sixth best free-throw percentage in the LSC. Cash is shooting 75.6 percent from the free-throw line (59 of 78), and Glynn is hitting 71.2 percent of her free throws (37 of 52).
 
Midwestern State is shooting 32.3 percent from the field and scoring 63.2 points per game. Opponents are shooting 42.2 percent against the Mustangs and scoring 62.3 points per outing.
 
 
West Texas A&M leads the all-time series with Midwestern State, 60-22, but the Mustangs won the last encounter, 69-67, at D.L. Ligon Coliseum last season.
 
Cash was 10-of-18 from the field and scored 22 points in the victory, while Calyssa Sevier was 6-of-12 from the field, including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc on her way to a career-high 18 points. Sevier played all 40 minutes in the win over the Lady Buffs.
 
West Texas A&M (16-1, 8-0) is coming off a 70-59 win at No. 11-ranked Lubbock Christian on Thursday night. The Lady Buffs snapped LCU's 22-game home winning streak, and head coach Josh Prock earned his 100th victory in his fifth season at WT.  
 
West Texas A&M has a 16-game winning streak with its only loss of the season coming in its season opener against top-ranked Grand Valley State at the D2CCA Tipoff Classic in St. Joseph, Missouri.
 
The Lady Buffs are shooting 44.3 percent from the field, which is third in the conference, and they are the highest scoring team in the LSC with 78.1 points per game, which makes them the 14th highest scoring team in NCAA Division II.
 
West Texas A&M also boasts the third-best scoring defense in the conference, holding opponents to 57.6 points per game.  WT is limiting its foes to 34.9 percent shooting from the field, which is the best field goal percentage defense in the league.
 
The plus-20.5 scoring margin is the best in the conference and sixth-best among NCAA Division II programs.
 
Kyla Kane is the leading scorer for WT with 12.5 points per game, and she has scored in double figures nine times this season, including a 10-point effort in the win over Lubbock Christian. Kane had a season-high 24 points in an 80-64 win over Adams State on Nov. 28.
 
Taylor Haggan is shooting 58.3 percent from the field and scoring 11.8 points per game for the Lady Buffs, and she is the leading rebounder with 7.2 boards per game. Katy Motschenbacher is pulling down 6.6 rebounds per game for the Lady Buffs.
 
West Texas A&M is the top rebounding team in the conference and ninth in the nation with 44.5 rebounds per game, including 13.8 offensive rebounds per game, which is fourth best in the LSC. The Lady Buffs lead the league and are sixth in the nation with a plus-12.4 rebounding margin.
 
Midwestern State visits Texas Woman's on Thursday night. Tipoff at Kitty Magee Arena is scheduled for 6 p.m.
