NORMAN, Okla. – Midwestern State Track & Field begins the New Year in Norman, Oklahoma, competing in the Owen Heweitt Invitational on Friday at Mosier Indoor Track Facility at Oklahoma University. Competition begins on at 10:30 a.m. with the Mile (Open), and concludes with the 4x400 relay (Invite).
Midwestern State began the season back in December, with the Mustangs clocking five school records and 16 personal bests at the Crimson & Gold Invitational
(Recap).
Ella Pando set the school record for both the 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters, taking down an 11 year hold record in the 3K with a time of 10:09.06.

Kennedy Johnson set a new school record in the triple jump (39' 3.75"), while also hitting a division II provisional mark.
Diana Kelley (High Jump) and
Shalisa Williams (60 meter hurdles) also set new school records at the meet.
This weekend, the Mustangs will compete against 17 collegiate programs in Oklahoma, including Lone Star Conference foes DBU and Oklahoma Christian. The program will compete in 11 different events, split up between several different open and invite heats.

In the sprints,
Karissa Nixon (7.73),
Hailee Janzen (7.90),
Kennedy DeHorney (7.92) all will compete in the invite section of the 60m, as Nixon set their personal best in the event earlier this season. Following their new school record,
Shalisa Williams (9.16) will run in the invite section of the 60mh.

Eight Mustangs will be running in the 200 meters, with Janzen (25.48), Nixon (25.89), and
Christasia Jones (26.55) competing in the invite section. Meanwhile, five Mustangs will race in the 400 meters, with all five runners competing in the event for the first time this season (
Jadyn Dangerfield,
Abby Cavender,
Maggie Neal,
Christasia Jones, and
Hallie Kogler).

Several other Mustangs will compete for the first time in the 800 meters (Pando,
Grace Pineda,
Jessie Heath, and
Jackie Earley) and the Mile (
Maggie Neal).
Isabel Hernandez,
Jazira Perez, and
Jackie Earley will race in the 3,000 meters for the first time this season.

For the field events,
Kennedy Johnson (NH) and
Diana Kelley (5' 0.75") will compete in the open section of the high jump, while Johnson will also compete in the long jump (open section) and triple jump (invite section). Cavender will join the Johnson competing in the long jump. MSU will wrap up the meet with three relay teams competing in the 4x400m.
