ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Ouachita Baptist (1-1-0, 0-0-0) secured a 3-2 victory over Midwestern State (0-1-1, 0-0-0) at Kluck Field, with all five goals scored in a dynamic second half.
The first half between Midwestern State and Ouachita Baptist saw a flurry of activity without any goals scored. The Mustangs were on the offensive early, with
Nyxalee Munoz leading with multiple shots, while
Abbey Lee also contributed several attempts. Despite their efforts, Ouachita Baptist's Taylor Hapgood made a key save in the 32nd minute to keep the score level. Ouachita Baptist managed to counter with shots from Isabella Savattere and Sahara Adams, but neither team was able to break the deadlock by the end of the half, which featured a total of four corner kicks for Midwestern State.
Midwestern State and Ouachita Baptist engaged in a tightly contested second half, marked by a series of strategic plays. Ouachita Baptist took an early advantage when Olivia Erskine scored in the 54rd minute, assisted by Reese Brown and Kaylee McKinley. Erskine extended the lead to 2-0 in the 59th minute with another goal, assisted by Savattere. The Mustangs responded with a goal in the 67th minute from
Jasmine Montgomery, assisted by
Mable Pruter, to narrow the gap. Lee equalized for the Mustangs in the 88th minute, with assists from
Morgan Countryman and
Sloane Sullivan, but Ouachita swiftly regained the lead a minute later with a goal by McKenna Wright, assisted by Madi Vana, securing a 3-2 victory.
The next challenge for the Mustangs takes them to Edmond, Oklahoma, where they face Central Oklahoma on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
