EDMOND, Okla. — Midwestern State (0-1-2, 0-0-0) and the University of Central Oklahoma (0-1-2, 0-0-0) played to a 2-2 draw at Tom Thompson Field, each team scoring a goal in each half.
The match began with Midwestern State's
Morgan Countryman nearly scoring in the opening minutes, hitting the right woodwork at 00:38.
Abbey Lee followed with a shot on goal at 02:14, which was saved by Central Oklahoma's goalkeeper, Avery Bass. The Maroon & Gold took the lead in the 16th minute when
Nyxalee Munoz netted a goal, assisted by
Madison Brinkley. Central Oklahoma responded swiftly, with Rebekah George equalizing in the 23rd minute.
Tanner Sorenson made a key save for MSU in the 42nd minute to maintain the 1-1 tie going into halftime.
The second period began with the Mustangs applying offensive pressure, as
Marlene Myrvold and Lee each tested Central Oklahoma goalkeeper Avery Bass with shots in the 49th and 52nd minutes, respectively. MSU gained the lead in the 71st minute when Myrvold scored with an assist from
Alinessa Salinas. Central Oklahoma responded in the 82nd minute with a goal from Caleah Carter, assisted by George and Lauren Piper, leveling the score at 2-2. Despite a late shot by Sheridan Ross saved by Sorenson and a corner kick opportunity in the 89th minute, Central Oklahoma could not break the tie, and the match concluded with a draw.
Midwestern State opens conference play at Texas A&M International on Sept. 17. Kickoff at Dustdevil Soccer Field in Laredo, Texas, is scheduled for 7 p.m.
