Bryan takes reins of Midwestern State softball program

WICHITA FALLS, Texas — Kae Lani Bryan has been named as the fourth head coach in the history of the Midwestern State softball program.

Bryan, a native of Picher, Oklahoma, joins the Mustangs after seven seasons as the head coach at Fort Scott Community College in Fort Scott, Kansas. She is the all-time winningest coach in Fort Scott history with 122 victories.

Bryan led the Greyhounds to a school-record 40 wins in 2024 and the first-ever Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference title in program history.

Fort Scott won the 2024 NJCAA Region 6 D2 Tournament Championship with four consecutive wins, including an 11-9 victory over KJCCC regular season champion Johnson County to clinch a berth in the NJCAA Division II Softball World Series. The Greyhounds defeated Bryant & Stratton College (Va.) in the first round, 5-1.

"We are very excited about Coach Bryan taking over the program here at Midwestern State," Athletic Director Kyle Williams said. "She has the attributes to build a team that can contend in the Lone Star Conference."

Before taking over at Fort Scott, Bryan served as an assistant coach under Ryan Phillips at Labette, where she flourished as the lead recruiter and coached 20 All-KJCCC/All-Region players, four NFCA All-Americans and two NJCAA All-Americans.

Labette was 136-74 during her time with the Lady Cardinals and made back-to-back NJCAA Division II national tournament appearances in 2015 and 2016.

Bryan replaces Brittanie Talley, who resigned as the head coach at Midwestern State in April after leading the program for four seasons.
