ARLINGTON, Texas -- – Midwestern State is the No. 4-seed in the 2025 Lone Star Conference Men's Tennis Championship and faces fifth-seeded Cameron in the quarterfinals at Arlington Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for Thursday at 9 a.m.
The Mustangs, No. 24 in the ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings, won their final two dual matches of the regular season to finish 13-5 overall with a 5-3 record in the LSC.
Midwestern State leads the all-time series with the Aggies, 32-30, and snapped a four-match losing streak in the series with a 4-3 victory at home on March 18.
Stephen Slocombe and
Filip Vacula clinched the doubles point against the Aggies with a 6-3 victory over Kristian Kubik and Lachian Setina at No. 1 doubles.
Vacula, Slocombe and
Jose Marquez earned points in singles as the Mustangs narrowly defeated Cameron at MSU Tennis Center during the regular season.
The Mustangs are 66-37 in singles matches this season, and sophomore
Bruno Sanchez from Spain leads the team with 12 victories in 18 appearances.
Sanchez is 11-6 at No. 2 singles this season and won six of eight matches against conference opponents.
Slocombe is 11-4 overall this season and won six of his seven matches against LSC opponents. The senior from Barbados has won nine of his last 10 matches for the Mustangs, including a 6-1, 7-6 (5) victory over Pavel Kelo of Cameron.
Vacula is 10-6 at No. 1 singles and won six of his nine matches against ranked opponents this season.
The freshman from the Czech Republic is ranked No. 18 in the ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings and defeated Louis Boilevin of Cameron in the regular season dual, 6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-2.
Vacula and Slocombe finished the regular season with a 6-1 record in doubles against conference opponents and carry a four-match winning streak into the postseason. The No. 12-ranked pairing in NCAA Division II is 11-5 overall this season.
Sanchez and
Justin Van Amerongen have won seven of their last 10 doubles' matches and are 11-5 this season, playing primarily in the No. 2 position.
Killian Guillou and
Juan David Duque are 7-3 in the No. 3 spot and won their last two doubles matches to close out the regular season.
The Mustangs are 32-20 in doubles matches this season and won the doubles point in 10 dual matches over the course of the regular season.
The winner of the quarterfinal faces top-seeded UT Tyler in the semifinals on Friday morning. The Patriots scored a 5-2 victory at MSU Tennis Center on April 17 and finished the regular season with a 21-1 record, including an 8-0 mark in the LSC.
