ROCKWALL, Texas -- Midwestern State took the suspense right out of Lone Star Conference Medal Match play Wednesday at the Rockwall Golf and Athletic Club.
The Mustangs routed top-seeded Oklahoma Christian, 5-0, in the semifinal, then won the first three matches off of the links on the way to a 3 1/2-to-1 1/2 win over Dallas Baptist to claim its fifth league championship.
MSU also claimed LSC titles in 2013, 2018, 2019, 2022, and 2025.
Senior
Seth Bearden clinched the championship run with his fourth birdie of the day to close the round with a 2-under 70, beating Dallas Baptist's Brecken Franklin by four strokes.
Fellow senior
Gatlin Goad pulled even with DBU's Aston Castillo with a birdie on the par-5 16th hole, then put the Mustangs up 1-0 when Castillo posted a double bogey on the final hole. Goad finished with an even-par 72.
MSU senior
James Perry used an eagle on the 16th hole to take a three-stroke lead over DBU's Samuel Jenkins, and held on for a two-stroke win to put the Mustangs up, 2-0. Perry finished with a 3-over 75.
DBU's Ben Potter scored the only point for the Patriots by taking a two-stroke victory over Midwestern State's
Trevor Walsh, who fired a 5-over 77.
MSU freshman
Ryan Griff played Dallas Baptist's Christian Clanton to a draw as both players fired a 4-over 76.
Perry (70/-2), Goad (72/E), and Griff (72/E) carded par-or-better scores to help the Mustangs to a sweep of Oklahoma Christian earlier in the day, while Dallas Baptist advanced with a 4-1 win over St. Mary's.
