WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State is ranked No. 3 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Women's Division II rankings released this week.
The Mustangs own a 16-1 overall record, and they have won 10 consecutive duals since suffering their only loss of the season -- to No. 2-ranked Barry (Fla.) in the ITA Indoor Championship finals last month in Indianapolis.
MSU is coming off back-to-back wins over Texas A&M-Kingsville and Angelo State.
The Mustangs are one of seven programs from the Lone Star Conference to receive mention in the rankings, joining, No. 21 Lubbock Christian, No. 24 Dallas Baptist, No. 29 UT Tyler, No. 31 Angelo State, No. 41 Texas A&M-Kingsville and No. 44 St. Mary's (Texas).
Senior
Jessica Binzari is ranked seventh in the ITA national singles rankings. The native of Constanta, Romania, boasts a 22-4 overall record this season and is 11-3 in dual play.
Binzari is unbeaten in three matches against nationally ranked opposition.
Sophomore
Sofia Giraldo is ranked 21st in singles play with an 20-8 overall mark this season. Giraldo has won six consecutive dual matches in straight sets and is 11-5 this spring.
Binzari also combines with senior
Anda Ghinga to form the No. 14-ranked duo in the ITA national doubles rankings, while senior
Hannah Yip and freshman
Camila Garcia are ranked 49th.
Midwestern State is visiting Sul Ross State on Friday and Western New Mexico on Saturday.
