No. 23-ranked MSU visits Sul Ross State and WNMU

ALPINE, Texas -- No. 23-ranked Midwestern State travels to Sul Ross State and Western New Mexico for a pair of dual matches this week. The Mustangs visit LSC newcomer Sul Ross on Friday at noon before traveling to Western New Mexico for a 2 p.m. dual match on Saturday.

Midwestern State is 9-4 overall this season with a 1-2 conference record following a 5-2 loss at UT Permian Basin on March 29.

Midwestern State is 43-31 in singles matches this season, led by freshman Filip Vacula in the No. 1 position.

Vacula, ranked No. 13 in the ITA national singles rankings, is 6-5 in dual matches. The native of the Czech Republic is 5-2 against nationally ranked opponents this season.
Sophomore Bruno Sanchez of Spain is ranked No. 24, and junior Juan David Duque of Colombia is No. 37 in the latest ITA singles rankings.

Sanchez has won back-to-back matches, defeating No. 18-ranked Pablo Segura of Lubbock Christian, 6-2, 6-4, and Lucas Nakasato of UTPB, 7-6 (5), 6-1.
Duque is 5-3 with three wins at No. 6 singles and two victories at No. 5 singles for the Mustangs.

Vacula and senior Stephen Slocombe of Barbados are the No. 15-ranked doubles pairing in the ITA national rankings and are 7-5 this spring with a 2-1 conference record.
Sanchez and Justin Van Amerongen are 6-4 at No. 2 doubles this season with a 2-1 record against LSC foes, and the duo is ranked No. 42 in the nation.

The Mustangs are 19-18 in doubles matches this season and have won the doubles point in six dual matches this year, including twice against conference opponents.

Midwestern State is 8-2 all-time when facing Sul Ross State, but the two schools have not clashed on the tennis court since MSU scored a 7-2 victory at Alpine in 1995. Midwestern State is 3-1 all-time when visiting the Lobos and has won the last six confrontations overall.

Sul Ross State is 0-8 this season and has lost its first four dual matches against LSC competition. The Lobos have suffered six consecutive 7-0 defeats. The Lobos are hosting MSU for their home opener.

Midwestern State leads the all-time series with Western New Mexico, 11-1, and has won the last nine meetings, including a 4-0 victory in the quarterfinals of the LSC Men's Tennis Championship last spring.

Midwestern State earned a 7-0 victory over the Western Mustangs in Silver City last season and has not dropped a dual-match point in the last three meetings.

Western New Mexico is coming off a 4-2 victory against Dallas Baptist and has a 2-2 record in the LSC. WNMU is 5-5 overall this season and is hosting a dual match for the third time this season. Cameron visits WNMU a day before MSU arrives in Silver City.

Midwestern State returns home on April 17 for a dual match with UT Tyler, and the Mustangs host Dallas Baptist at MSU Tennis Center on April 18. Both duals begin at 2 p.m.
