WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- No. 9-ranked Midwestern State seeks its fourth consecutive dual-match victory at it hosts Southwest Baptist at MSU Tennis Center on Tuesday afternoon. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
The Mustangs are 2-0 at home after defeating Northwest Missouri State, 5-2, and Arkansas-Fort Smith, 4-0, this past weekend.
Freshman
Filip Vacula from the Czech Republic, ranked No. 18 in the nation, has posted a 4-3 record at No. 1 singles with two wins against top-10 opponents, and all four wins are against opponents ranked in the top-40 among NCAA Division II singles players.
Sophomore
Bruno Sanchez from Spain is ranked No. 46 in the nation and has a three-match winning streak at No. 2 singles after defeating No 50-ranked Juan Rosello of UAFS, 6-2, 6-1.
Stephen Slocombe has won his last two matches at No. 3 singles, including a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Anis Ramchange of UAFS.
Junior
Philip Kamara has won his last three matches and has not dropped a set at No. 4 singles after defeating Rodrigo Hoppe of UAFS, 6-1, 6-0.
Midwestern State has used four different players at both No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
Juan David Duque is 2-0 at No. 6 singles and 1-1 in the No. 5 position.
Sanchez and
Justin Van Amerongen are ranked No. 31 in doubles and lead the Mustangs with a 4-2 record in doubles. As a team, the Mustangs are 9-13 in doubles matches.
Midwestern State is 16-7 in 23 previous encounters with the Bearcats, who have lost five of their previous six visits to MSU Tennis Center.
This year, Southwest Baptist arrives with a four-match winning and a 5-2 record. The Bearcats defeated UT Dallas in Richardson, Texas, on Monday, 6-1. SBU's only loss was at No. 4 singles.
Marcio Silva, who is a senior from Brazil, occupies No. 1 singles and has a four-match winning streak, and he has a 5-2 record this season for the Bearcats.
Silva teams with Jauni Morresi at No. 1 doubles and is coming off a 6-3 victory over Benjamin Dubois and Travis Rafferty of UT Dallas in their last match.
Silva lost at No. 1 doubles and No. 3 singles last season as Midwestern State earned a 7-0 win over the Bearcats.
