INDIANAPOLIS -- Midwestern State is one of eight schools competing in the 2025 ITA Division II National Women's Team Indoor Championship, a three-day tournament to crown an indoor national champion.
The top seven teams from the 2023-24 Final ITA Division II National Rankings received an invite with one spot reserved for the University of Indianapolis, which is hosting the event.
Midwestern State is the No. 6 seed in the tournament and faces No. 3-seed Lynn in the first-round dual match on Friday at 10 a.m. CST.
The winner of the first-round dual advances to the semifinals on Saturday at 10 a.m. CST and will face either No. 2-seed North Georgia or No. 7-seed Flagler.
Barry, which eliminated Midwestern State in the 2024 national semifinals, is the No. 1 seed in the tournament and faces No. 8-seed Indianapolis on Friday. No. 4-seed Embry-Riddle takes on No. 5-seed Wingate, which lost to Midwestern State in the national quarterfinals last spring.
Barry is the three-time defending ITA Division II Women's National Team Indoor champion and has won the title four times. Barry defeated NOVA Southeastern in the final last year, 4-2.
Midwestern State is making its second appearance in the event.
In 2021, the Mustangs were defeated by Indianapolis in the first round, 4-0. Flagler defeated MSU in the consolation round, 4-1, and Columbus State earned a 4-1 victory in the seventh-place dual.
The Mustangs enter this year's tournament with a 4-0 record to start the season and are ranked No. 5 in the most recent ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings.
Midwestern State is 16-5 in singles matches.
Senior lefty
Hannah Yip of Malaysia is coming off a 3-6, 6-4, 10-0 victory over Tegan Heaton of Northeastern State (Okla.) at Edmond Racquet Club to improve her singles record to 2-2. Yip has played three matches at No. 1 singles and once at No. 2 singles.
No. 6-ranked
Jessica Binzari, a senior from Romania, is 3-1, including a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Renske Ubachs of No. 11-ranked Washburn in a 4-3 dual-match victory on Feb. 8 in Topeka, Kansas.
Senior
Anda Ghinga of Romania has started the season with three consecutive straight-set victories at No. 4 singles.
Sophomore
Sofia Giraldo of Colombia, who is ranked No. 8 among NCAA Division II singles players, is 3-1 at No. 3 singles. Giraldo has won three matches in straight sets and lost to Daniela Tijaro of Washburn 7-6 (5), 3-6, 5-7.
Freshman
Camila Garcia of Colombia is 2-1 at No. 5 singles.
The Mustangs are undefeated at No. 6 singles with freshman
Alessia Dolce of Italy winning twice, including the clinching 2-6, 7-6 (6), 6-2 victory over Isabella Marensson of Washburn.
Senior
Sydney Williams from Austin, Texas, earned a victory at No. 6 singles in her first singles appearance of the season.
Midwestern is 9-2 in doubles, led by the Romanian pairing of Binzari and Ghinga, who are ranked No. 13 in the nation. The duo is 3-0 at No. 2 doubles.
Yip and Garcia are 2-1 at No. 1 doubles with the only loss coming to the No. 6-ranked pairing of Tijaro and Ubachs of Washburn, which pulled out a 7-5 victory.
Williams is 3-1 in doubles and has played with three different partners in four dual matches. Williams and
Sarah Mazaraki have won back-to-back matches at No. 3 doubles entering the Indoor Championship.
Lynn is based in Boca Raton, Florida, and is ranked No. 4 in the nation with a 4-2 overall record. The Fighting Knights lost to No. 3-ranked Embry Riddle earlier this week, 4-3. In a Sunshine State Conference dual match in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Lynn is led by No. 20-ranked Salma Djoubri of France, who is 3-1 at No. 1 singles. Mariya Vyshkina has also won twice at No. 1 singles and is 5-1 overall.
Lynn is 13-4 in doubles matches this season, led by Kristen Younes of Israel and Carla Galmiche of France. The duo is 4-1 at No. 1 doubles, including a 7-6 (3) triumph over Laura Cuesta Bret and Carla Cabrero del Hie of Embry Riddle on Feb. 17.
Midwestern State is facing Lynn for the first time in the history of the program.
