Mustangs face Savage Storm on Tuesday night

WICHITA FALLS – Midwestern State returns home on Tuesday night for a non-conference matchup with Southeastern Oklahoma State. Tipoff at D.L. Ligon Coliseum is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Midwestern State is coming off a 65-52 loss at Central Oklahoma as the Mustangs played without Kerbie Cash, who was assessed a flagrant 2 foul in the 82-33 win over North Texas – Dallas.  Cash will be back for the game against the Savage Storm. However, junior forward Aniya Williams and junior guard Da'Lonna Choice are out of the lineup after suffering injuries in the loss to the Bronchos.

Veonce Powell is scoring 9.0 points per game and dishing out three assists per contest for the Mustangs, who are scoring 67 points per game and allowing just 49.

Macie Upshaw is pulling down seven rebounds a game, and the Mustangs have outrebounded opponents 45.5 – 41.5 through the first two games. Upshaw led the team with 11 boards against the Bronchos on Thursday night.

Katy Greathouse was 4-of-6 from the field and scored a team-leading 12 points and played 23 minutes at UCO. Greathouse had five points in 13 minutes during the season-opening triumph over North Texas – Dallas.

Midwestern State is 10-18 in its 28 previous meetings with Southeastern Oklahoma State, and the Mustangs have lost seven of the last nine encounters, including a 77-62 loss in their last meeting in November of 2023 at Bloomer Sullivan Arena in Durant, Oklahoma.

Southeastern Oklahoma State (2-2) won its last two games and is coming off an 86-74 triumph over Arkansas-Fort Smith in Durant.

Tori Kilburn was 7-of-11 from the floor and finished with a game-high 24 points, and she pulled down 10 rebounds for the Savage Storm, who won the rebounding battle, 43-35.

Mackenzie Espinoza also had a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards in the victory. Kenzli Warden added 22 points for Southeastern Oklahoma State.

Kilburn is shooting 57 percent from the field and leading the Savage Storm with 18.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. Warden is averaging 17.3 points per game. Espinoza is pulling down 5.8 rebounds per game for the Savage Storm.

Southeastern State is facing a Lone Star Conference opponent for the second time this season. The Savage Storm defeated Cameron, 94-64, as 11 different players connected from beyond the arc, and Southeastern was 17-of-45 from 3-point range.

Darin Glover has 299 wins in 21 seasons as the head coach at Southeastern Oklahoma State and a .534 winning percentage in 560 games.

Midwestern State continues its four-game homestand on Saturday as East Central visits the Mustangs for a 1 p.m. game at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
