ALAMOSA, Colo. — Midwestern State (1-2) fell to Adams St. (3-1) in a high-scoring contest, 99-91, on Thursday night at Plachy Hall. The Mustangs secured 51 rebounds and recorded 9 steals in the effort.
Midwestern State opened the first half with an assertive 50-39 lead over Adams State.
DaCannon Wesley initiated the scoring with a jumper in the paint just 17 seconds into the game.
Jonathan Jackson contributed significantly with two three-pointers, one coming at the 13:12 mark with an assist from
Davyon Butler. Despite multiple turnovers from both teams, MSU capitalized on fast breaks and scoring opportunities, including a fastbreak layup by
Vojin Mastilovic with only 45 seconds remaining. Adams State's Dillan Baker ended the half with a dunk, assisted by Jaylen Alexander, but the Mustangs maintained a substantial lead heading into the break.
Midwestern State began the second half with a strong offensive showing, highlighted by Jackson's three-pointer at the 19:04 mark and Wesley's fastbreak dunk to extend the lead to 55-39. However, Adams State responded with Emilek Jallow leading a comeback, scoring multiple times, including a three-pointer with 12:06 remaining to level the score at 67. Despite
Terrance Ramirez's efforts for MSU, including a crucial three-pointer with 50 seconds left, Adams State closed the game with defensive stops and crucial free throws. Jarmell Johnson sealed the victory for the home team, scoring the final points from the line for a 99-91 win.
Ramirez led the Maroon & Gold with 18 points, converting 7 of 10 free throws. Jackson added 16 points, sinking four 3-pointers. Wesley posted 14 points and recorded six rebounds.
Charles McClennahan, Jr. collected 10 rebounds to complement his eight points.
Jallow led Adams St. with an impressive 34 points, shooting 13 of 20 from the field, and added eight rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. Luke Williams contributed significantly with 22 points, hitting 8 of 14 shots, and collected six rebounds. Wyatt Helming was a force on defense, securing 10 rebounds alongside three blocks, while also scoring nine points. Johnson was effective at the free-throw line, converting 8 of 10 attempts, and finished with 16 points and four rebounds.
Looking ahead, the Mustangs will head to Gunnison, Colorado, for their upcoming game against Western Colorado. The matchup is set for Saturday, Nov. 22 at 4 p.m. CT at Paul Wright Gym.
