BOULDER CITY, Nev. — Midwestern State secured a second-place finish at the National Preview, led by
Seth Bearden's individual title with a 13-under-par (203) over three rounds at Boulder Creek Golf Club on Tuesday afternoon.
Midwestern State concluded the National Preview in a strong second-place finish, just two strokes behind Lynn University, with a final team score of 838 (-26). The Mustangs led all teams with 67 birdies over the three rounds, and drained five eagles.
Bearden led the charge for the Mustangs, finishing first individually with a score of 203 (-13). He had consistent rounds of 68, 67, and 68, demonstrating his ability to maintain top performance throughout the tournament. The senior led the field with 19 birdies over 54 holes, and had the best average score on par three holes (4-under-par), with an average of 2.67. The Crowell, Texas native earned his first individual title of the season, while winning his fifth tournament of his MSU career.
Anniston McIlwain also made a notable impact, tying for 11th place with a total of 209 (-7), his final round of 2-under par wrapped up a solid tournament for the sophomore. McIlwain took advantage of par-5s, finishing 11-under par on 12 par fives during the tournament.
Bryce Hoech contributed to MSU's success by finishing tied for 29th with a total score of 215 (-1), he improved on his first two rounds of play securing a 71 (-1) in the final round.
Hank Germany,
Ryan Griff, and
Nathan Nelson each completed the tournament at 216 (E), tying for 39th place. Nelson finished 1-under par on the day, finding five birdies in his final round, while Griff overcame a few early bogies to finish 3-over par on their final round. Germany, completing as an individual, improved after a challenging first round, shooting 69 (-3) and 70 (-2) in subsequent rounds.
The Mustangs return to Texas for their next outing, traveling to Amarillo, Texas for the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational. The three round tournament (54 holes) is set to begin on Oct. 14 and conclude on Oct. 15.
