WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Senior midfielder
Lillia Besedin earned Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week after scoring two goals as Midwestern State extended its unbeaten streak to 11 games.
Besedin game the Mustangs a 2-1 lead at St. Mary's scoring on a set piece in the 56th minute as she was assisted by last week's LSC Defensive Player of the Week,
Mable Pruter. The Rattlers came back to earn the 2-2 draw on Wednesday by scoring a goal in the 75th minute.
Besedin was pivotal in the Mustangs' 3-0 win over Angelo State at Stang Park on Saturday. Pruter once again delivered a ball in front of the goal that Besedin headed in to give MSU a 2-0 lead in the 29th minute.
Besedin and
Nyxalee Munoz are tied for the second-most goals this season.
Marlene Myrvold leads the team with six.
Midwestern State posted its fifth shutout of the season and moved four points clear of UT Tyler into second place in the LSC standings. MSU is even with Dallas Baptist on points with 24, but the Patriots have played two fewer conference games.
The Mustangs do not play a midweek match this week and return to action on Saturday, when they host UT Tyler at 11 a.m.
