Rambelles roll into Stang Park for showdown with Midwestern State

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State has a 10-game unbeaten streak as it hosts Angelo State at Stang Park on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

Midwestern State (6-1-5, 6-0-3) is second in the Lone Star Conference standings with 21 points from nine matches, trailing Dallas Baptist by three points. The Patriots have collected all 24 points from their eight conference matches.

Angelo State (6-2-4, 5-1-2) is fourth in the LSC with 17 points from its eight league matches. The Rambelles have a five-match winning streak and are unbeaten in their last seven matches. Angelo State is 3-1-1 on the road this season.

Midwestern State has won all four of its matches at Stang Park this season and has a seven-game home winning streak dating back to last season. The home unbeaten streak stands at 16. The Mustangs have not been defeated on home soil since a 3-1 loss to DBU two years ago.

Marlene Myrvold and Lillia Besedin scored goals for the Mustangs in a 2-2 draw at St. Mary's on Wednesday night. The Mustangs outshot the Rattlers 19-11 with eight shots on goal.

St. Mary's finished with five shots on goal. MSU has not allowed more than five shots on goal since Southern Nazarene put seven shots on frame in the season opener, which resulted in a 2-2 draw.

The Mustangs have only allowed six shots on goal in their four home matches this season and did not allow either Lubbock Christian or West Texas A&M to get a single shot on goal at Stang Park.

Sophomore goalkeeper Tanner Sorenson is 5-0-4 this season with a 1.03 goals-against average and has posted three clean sheets. She also combined with Lauren Short for another shutout. Short is 1-1-1 with a 1.55 goals-against average.

Midwestern State is the third-highest scoring team in the LSC with 26 goals and 2.17 goals per game. MSU has conceded 14 goals this season. At home, the Mustangs are outscoring opponents, 8-2.

Nyxalle Munoz and Myrvold are the leading goal scorers for the Mustangs. They each have five goals and one assist, leading the team with 11 points in 12 matches.

Besedin scored her fourth goal of the season at St. Mary's and is second on the team with eight points.

Mable Pruter, who is the reigning LSC Defensive Player of the Week, has a goal and four assists for the Mustangs. The senior from Montgomery, Texas, has a four-game points streak with a goal and three assists in that span.

Midwestern State leads the all-time series with Angelo State, 18-17-9, but the Mustangs have not defeated the Rambelles since a 2-0 victory at Stang Park in 2022. MSU advanced in the LSC Tournament on PKs following a 2-2 draw at ASU Soccer Field in 2022.

Last season, the Rambelles and Mustangs played a 2-2 draw at Stang Park in the regular season as Madison Brinkley scored a goal for MSU.

In the semifinals of the LSC Tournament last fall, the Mustangs were beaten by the top-seeded Rambelles, 2-0, at LeGrand Soccer Complex. Pruter was red carded in the 59th minute of that match as Sanai Stewart scored both goals for Angelo State, including one in the 65th minute.

Stewart is the leading goal scorer for the Rambelles this season with six tallies, and she leads the team with 13 points in 12 matches.

Abby James leads the team with six assists and has 10 points for Angelo State this season.

James assisted on Graycen Rasmussen's second goal of the season as the Rambelles defeated UT Tyler on Wednesday night in San Angelo, 1-0.

Angelo State has posted five consecutive clean sheets and has not conceded a goal in 510 minutes.

The Rambelles have outscored their opponents, 17-7, this season. Angelo State is outscoring opponents in away matches, 8-2.

Goalkeeper Melyna Martinez is 6-2-4 with a 0.60 goals-against average, and the senior from San Antonio has made 46 saves this season, boasting an .868 save percentage.

Midwestern State has a week between games and will next be in action on homecoming weekend as it hosts UT Tyler on Oct. 25. Kickoff at Stang Park is scheduled for 11 a.m.
