WICHITA FALLS, Texas – No. 9-ranked Midwestern State has a four-match winning streak after posting its third consecutive clean sheet in a 3-0 victory at Dallas Baptist on Wednesday night, and the Mustangs are back home for a Saturday night match with UT Dallas. Kickoff at Stang Park is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Midwestern State (8-2-3, 4-1-0) is atop the Lone Star Conference standings with 12 points, leading UT Dallas and St. Edward's by two points.
The Mustangs are 2-2-1 at home but have not lost a match since dropping a 2-1 decision to St. Edward's in the conference opener at Stang Park.
Alan Rivera had a goal and an assist,
Liam Pritchard had two assists, and Midwestern State outshot DBU 18-10 en route to its victory at Patriot Soccer Field. MSU put eight shots on goal, while DBU only managed one shot on goal.
Midwestern State has not conceded a goal in the last 336 minutes and has outscored the opposition this season 27-12. Texas A&M International is the last team to score against MSU. TAMIU took a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute, but the Mustangs scored the next five goals at Dustdevil Field in the second match of the conference campaign.
Midwestern State is 2-2-1 at home this season and has outscored visiting teams, 7-6. The Mustangs have recorded two shutouts at Stang Park, including a 2-0 victory over UT Tyler in their last match as the host.
Senior goalkeeper
Daniel Robles is 5-1-1 with three shutouts and a 0.87 goals-against average. Sophomore
Jake Morris is 3-1-2 with three shutouts and a 0.98 goals-against average. Robles made one save and earned the win at Dallas Baptist. Morris made four saves and shutout Oklahoma Christian in the previous match.
Parker Plaxco is second in the conference with 19 points and has scored the second-most goals in the LSC with eight. The senior from Stephenville, Texas, has put 20 of his 34 shots on goal, and he has assisted on three goals this season.
Rivera has scored four goals in the last four matches, and he is second on the team with five goals this season. The junior from Round Rock, Texas, assisted on
Liam Kervick's goal in the second minute at DBU on Wednesday night.
Kervick and
Cooper Tea each have three goals and an assist this season.
Jaime Villagomez has two goals and three assists for the Mustangs.
Pritchard leads the team with four assists this season and scored his only goal in the 3-3 draw with Newman in the home opener.
Dereck Espinal scored his second goal of the season in the Mustangs 2-0 victory at Oklahoma Christian last week.
Midwestern State leads the all-time series with UT Dallas, 6-0-0, but has not faced the Comets since a 3-0 victory at home in 1996. UTD is 0-2-0 at Stang Park and suffered an 11-0 defeat in its first visit 30 years ago.
UT Dallas (7-3-2, 3-0-1) is in its first season as a member of the LSC and is unbeaten in its first four conference matches, including a 1-0 victory over Lubbock Christian on Wednesday night.
The Comets have posted back-to-back shutouts after defeating West Texas A&M 2-0 last week.
UT Dallas is 2-2-1 on the road this season and has scored five away goals this season. Overall, the Comets are outscoring their opponents 17-13.
Avery Brazzell and Carson Burden have each scored three goals, while Ryan Anderson, Luke Harris and Callum Thompson have scored two goals apiece. Five other players have each scored a goal for UTD this season.
Anderson leads the team with three assists, while Harris and Evan Pustejovsky each have two assists for the Comets.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Ryder Claborn from Lawton, Oklahoma, is 6-0-2 with a conference-leading 0.38 goals-against average, and he leads the LSC with five clean sheets this season. Claborn has made 19 saves and has the best save percentage in the conference at .864.
Midwestern State is back in action on Oct. 25 when West Texas A&M visits Stang Park. Kickoff on homecoming weekend is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
