Two former Mustangs, who were standout players on the pitch and are now assistant coaches at Midwestern State, give us a preview of the upcoming FIFA World Cup and provide insight on the makeup of the two MSU teams heading into the fall.

Len Smith was a three-time, second-team All-South Central Region selection by the United Soccer Coaches closing a three-year run with the Mustangs with 26 goals and five assists. Smith helped the Mustangs win 35 matches during his three-seasons as a player and is now an assistant coach with the MSU women's soccer team. 

Patrick Fitzgerald was a D2CCA All-American in 2017, starting all 23 games as the Mustangs reached the NCAA Elite Eight. He also earned first team All-Conference and All-Region honors after finishing the season with seven goals and an assist. He took over as the assistant men's soccer coach at Midwestern State in 2020 and helped lead the team to a National Championship this past season.
