Men's Soccer Coaching Staff Recognized as National Coaching Staff of the Year by United Soccer Coaches Association

Head Coach Michael Meachum and staff earn the honor for the first time, following national championship in 2025

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – After leading Midwestern State Men's Soccer to a national championship, Michael Meachum and his staff have been named the United Soccer Coaches DII National Coaching Staff of the Year. The coaching staff garner the accolade for the first time in program history, while having been named regional coaching staff of the year in 2023 and 2025.

Meachum works alongside associate head coach, Patrick Fitzgerald, assistant coaches, AJ Francois and Carlos Gonzalez, and are aided by athletic trainer, Laura Poston and strength and conditioning coach, Dr. Brett Crossland.

Meachum completes his eighth season at the helm of the Mustangs, holding a 122-25-15 (.799) record with 12 trophies as a head coach. A three-time Lone Star Conference (LSC) Coach of the Year, Meachum led the Mustangs to their first national championship in program history and the first Super Region 4 title this season.

Fitzgerald wrapped up his playing career in the 2019 for MSU, and has been a member of the coaching staff since 2020. In his time on the sidelines, Fitzgerald has aided the Mustangs to a 90-19-12 record. Fitzgerald finished a decorated playing career garnering D2CCA All-American, All-Region, and All-Conference honors, helping the team to elite eight appearances in 2016 and 2017.
 
Francois joined the Mustangs for his first season in 2025, playing four seasons at University of Denver. The Austin, Texas native was an Elite 90 Award winner in 2024 for the Pioneers, reaching the NCAA DI College Cup semifinals, falling to eventual champions Vermont (T, 1-1, 4-3 SO).

Midwestern State finished the season with a 19-3-3 overall record, ending the season on a 11 match winning streak and setting the program record for shutouts (15). The program captured all four championships it was eligible for: LSC Regular Season Championship, LSC Postseason Tournament Championship, NCAA DII Super Region IV Championship, and NCAA DII National Championship.
