SAN ANGELO, Texas – Midwestern State is on the road for the second straight week and seeking a third straight victory as it takes on No. 21-ranked Angelo State at LeGrand Stadium on Saturday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Midwestern State (2-4, 2-2) is coming off a 69-23 victory at Sul Ross State as the Mustangs used a balanced attack to roll up 628 yards of total offense.
Sean Jastrab completed 25-of-32 passes for 271 yards and six touchdowns, while
Reginald Williams rushed for 156 yards on 15 carries.
Jaden Coulter also ran for 116 yards and scored two touchdowns on 10 carries.
Cedonyae Lott caught two passes for 64 yards and scored two receiving touchdowns. The two-time LSC Special Teams Player of the Week also returned a punt 58 yards for a touchdown.
The Mustangs are averaging 408 yards of total offense per game.
Demonte Greene is second in the conference and 13th in the nation with 91.8 yards receiving per game, and he has 551 yards receiving, which is second in the LSC and 16th among NCAA Division II receivers.
Williams, who has appeared in just three games, leads the team and is sixth in the conference with 317 yards rushing, averaging 105.7 yards per game and 7.0 yards per carry.
Kohen Maroney has taken over the place-kicking duties and is 4-for-4 on field goal attempts with a long kick of 47 yards.
Noah Bustard is the leading tackler for the Mustangs with 40 tackles, including 16 solo stops.
Oliver Jack leads the team 2.5 sacks, but Bustard and
Kam'rin Devault each have two sacks. Oliver leads the team with 3.5 tackles for loss this season.
Seven different Mustangs have intercepted a pass this season, and MSU has forced four fumbles.
Midwestern State leads the all-time series with Angelo State, 16-11, but has lost four of the last five meetings. The Rams routed the Mustangs last season at Memorial Stadium, 44-7. MSU lost its last visit to LeGrand Stadium, 27-12, and is 7-6 all-time as the visiting team in the series.
Angelo State (4-2, 2-2) is coming off back-to-back losses following a 24-19 loss at Texas A&M-Kingsville a week after MSU defeated the Javelinas, 31-24, in Wichita Falls. The Rams lost their last home game to UT Permian Basin, 28-14.
The Rams have the sixth-highest scoring offense in the LSC with 31.5 points per game, and has the third best scoring defense, allowing just 21 points per contest.
Angelo State has forced 14 turnovers this season, intercepting nine passes and recovering five fumbles.
Xavier Walton has intercepted four passes in six games for the Rams.
Senior defensive lineman Owen Seaver leads the Rams with 7.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks, leading the LSC in both categories.
Junior quarterback Braeden Fuller has completed 45-of-79 passes for 604 yards with seven touchdowns and two interceptions.
Corey Sandolph is the leading receiver with 16 catches for 314 yards and six touchdowns. Hunter Wells has caught 10 passes 260 yards and three touchdowns. Donny Bishop has 10 receptions for 128 yards and three touchdowns.
Jayden Jones is the leading rusher for the Rams with 256 yards on 49 carries, which is 5.2 yards per carry. Cameron Dischler has rushed for three touchdowns and has 227 yards on 66 carries.
Rance Purser has made all three of his field-goal attempts with a long of 36 yards. He has kicked off 33 times this season and has 11 touchbacks. Stefaan Forbes has 33 punts and is averaging nearly 43 yards a boot with eight punts of more than 50 yards, and he has punted the ball inside the opponents 20-yard line eight times this season.
Midwestern State returns to Memorial Stadium for homecoming on Oct. 25 and hosts Central Washington. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
