Sepken, Garcia and Gyorgy ready to represent MSU at ITA CUP

ROME, Georgia – Midwestern State has three women competing in this week's ITA Cup at the Rome Tennis Center. The ITA Cup field features eight NCAA Division II regional champions, who were automatic qualifiers, and eight at-large selections in both singles and doubles.

Selin Sepken was an automatic qualifier in singles after winning the ITA DII Women's South Central Regional Championships in Tyler. Emilia Gyorgy and Camila Garcia earned the automatic bid in doubles.

Sepken did not drop a set in her six matches at the South Central Regional Championships three weeks ago. The native of Istanbul, Turkey, who transferred to MSU from Idaho as a graduate student, defeated Margaux Rene of Angelo State in the final, 6-0, 7-5.

Sepken is in the bottom half of the singles draw and faces Eleanor Coleman of Rockhurst in the first round on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. CDT.

With a victory, Sepken would advance to play either No. 3-seed Natasha Sengphrachanh of Grand Valley State or Lilie Bizouerne of Queens College in the quarterfinals.

Gyorgy and Garcia face the fourth-seeded pairing of Daniela Tijaro and Renske Ubachs of Washburn in the opening round of doubles. First serve is scheduled for Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

The Midwestern State duo defeated the top-seeded pairing of Yona Bancarel and Natalia Gorzny of UT Tyler in the South Central Regional semifinals, 8-3, and then coasted to a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Gia Posito and Alessia Karol Terlizzi of St. Mary's in the final.

With a first-round victory, Gyorgy/Garcia would face either Sandra Recuenco Tarin and Carlota Verdu of West Florida, or Alissia Aleksandra Kivi and Nicole Kempton of Slippery Rock in the quarterfinals on Friday.

Garcia was a key contributor to the Mustangs semifinal run at the NCAA Women's Tennis Championship as a freshman last season, scoring two singles victories at the national tournament in Orlando, Florida.

Gyorgy, a freshman from Szentendre, Hungary, is making her presence felt early in her career at Midwestern State.
