WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- No. 8-ranked Midwestern State squares off with No. 31 Dallas Baptist in the Round of 32 of the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship Friday morning at the MSU Tennis Center. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
The winner advances to the NCAA Division II Championship set for May 21-25 at Sanlando Park Tennis Center in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
MUSTANGS IN THE POSTSEASON | Midwestern State is making its 11th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament and 22nd overall showing. The Mustangs own an 8-12 record in the Round of 32 and have not advanced past this stage since 2019. MSU advanced to the national quarterfinals in 2015 and 2017.
SERIES HISTORY | Midwestern State owns a 12-3 edge in the series against Dallas Baptist which dates back to 2006. The Mustangs and Patriots split results in 2024. MSU won the regular season matchup, 5-2, on April 12 at the MSU Tennis Center. The Patriots returned the favor by rolling past the Mustangs, 4-0, in the Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament semifinals played on DBU's home courts at the Arlington Tennis Center. Ironically, two of Dallas Baptist's three wins in the series have come at the cozy confines of the Arlington Tennis Center, where the Patriots also snapped MSU's nine-match winning streak in the series with a 5-2 win on April 8, 2023. Friday's meeting will be the second postseason match-up between the programs. Midwestern State rolled to a 5-1 win over the Pats on May 1, 2017 on the way to an NCAA Division II national quarterfinal appearance.

Anda Ghinga, an All-LSC first-team singles performer, earned 20 singles wins, going 10-2 at No. 2 and 10-0 at No. 3. The Arad, Romania, native is ranked No. 31 in the ITA singles rankings. Ghinga needs three victories to reach 100 career combined wins.

Hannah Yip rides a 10-match winning streak into the postseason and is ranked 41st in the ITA singles rankings with a 16-5 overall ranking, going 1-0 at No. 1, 6-5 at No. 2, and 9-0 at No. 3. Yip garnered second-team All-LSC honors for her singles play.

Sofia Giraldo (11-7) also amassed winning ledgers during singles' play, helping the Mustangs to an overall team winning percentage of .705 for the season.
