Seniors shine in twin bill sweep of Dustdevils

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State's Levi Luna and Allie Monroe drilled walk-off home runs to lead the Mustangs to a doubleheader sweep of Texas A&M International in Lone Star Conference play here Friday afternoon.

Luna launched a three-run blast over the left-field fence in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift MSU to a 4-2 win in Game 1 before Monroe's majestic, two-run shot to center field capped off an 8-0 run-rule win in six innings in the nightcap.

Midwestern State and Texas A&M International close the series and the season with a single game Saturday morning at Mustangs Park. First pitch is set for 10 a.m.

The Mustangs used aggressive baserunning to take the lead in the third inning. Senior Kerris Cameron reached on a single to right field for the first hit of the game. She advanced two bases to third on Briana Dominguez' sacrifice bunt before scoring on Camile Nunez' groundout to shortstop.

TAMIU's Alana Garcia laced a two-run double to the left-field gap to give the Dustdevils a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning before the Mustangs broke through with Luna's first homer of the campaign in the seventh.

Midwestern State freshman Addison Lindemann (7-11) earned the win in relief, limiting the Dustdevils to two runs on four hits over the final four innings with four strikeouts.

Senior Kennedy Cameron was brilliant over the first three frames, recording six strikeouts with her only baserunner coming on a walk in the third inning.

Cameron continued her dominance in the circle during the nightcap. The Longview, Texas, native weaved her second shutout of the season on a three-hitter with seven strikeouts and two walks.

The Mustangs plated a pair of runs in the second, third, fifth, and sixth innings to finish off the program's first run-rule win since beating Eastern New Mexico 11-1 in five innings on April 10, 2022 in Portales.

Senior Briana Dominguez had two hits with a run and an RBI to lead the Mustangs' eight-hit attack, while Chloe Bryant, Grace Martinez, and Monroe drove in two runs each.

Nunez extended her hitting streak to six games with a double in the sixth inning of Game 1 before ripping a single up the middle in the fourth inning of the second game.
