WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Kennedy Cameron closed out her career at Midwestern State with a sensational pitching performance, propelling the Mustangs to a 4-1 victory over Texas A&M International.
Cameron (5-8) held the Dustdevils hitless through five innings and threw her sixth complete game of the season. The senior from Longview, Texas, allowed one run on four hits with five strikeouts and two walks.
Midwestern State swept the Dustdevils, and Cameron started all three games. The right-hander threw two complete games in the series and shut out the Dustdevils for 15 innings before allowing a run in the seventh inning of the season finale. In 16 innings against TAMIU, Cameron allowed just seven hits with 18 strikeouts and five walks.
Cameron struck out 101 batters over 105 1/3 innings this season and only allowed 80 hits, holding opponents to a .208 batting average. For her career, Cameron finished fifth on the school's all-time strikeout list with 280 over 308 1/3 innings.
Camile Nunez extended her season-ending hitting streak to seven games with a lead-off homer in the first inning, and the Mustangs never trailed. Nunez drove in two more runs with a single to right field in the fourth inning and finished the game 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Nunez hit .435 during the hitting streak, and she finished the campaign with a .280 batting average, three home runs and 10 RBIs.
Kerris Cameron drove in a run for the Mustangs with a sacrifice fly to left-field foul territory, scoring
Mikey Dominguez from third base in the fourth inning. Cameron started all three games of the series at third base, but she finished the series by catching for her sister in the seventh inning.
Midwestern State won eight of its last nine home games and finished the year with a 15-36 overall record and overtook TAMIU for 12th place in the conference with a 13-29 record.
Tessa Ramirez (2-7) was the losing pitcher as she allowed four runs on five hits over four innings in the circle for the Dustdevils, who finish the season 15-37 with a 12-30 conference record.
