SAN ANTONIO -- Midwestern State pounded out 15 hits in the opening game of the doubleheader at St. Mary's Softball Field on Saturday afternoon, but the Mustangs lost a 10-inning marathon, 7-6. In the nightcap, the Rattlers silenced the Mustang bats and won 9-1 in five innings.
 

GAME 1 | Midwestern State 6, St. Mary's 6 (10 innings)

Sophomore Allie Monroe was 4-for-6 with a double and was one of four players with an RBI in the opening game of the doubleheader, but Midwestern State stranded 18 runners in the loss.

Midwestern took a 4-0 lead over the Rattlers through 3 ½ innings. Megan Ayala and Paige Gallegos drove home runs in the first inning. Grace Martinez drew a lead-off walk in the second inning and scored an unearned run on an error. Kayla Bryant led off the fourth inning with a walk and scored on a throwing error.

Saint Mary's began its comeback with three runs on two hits in the bottom of the fourth inning, and tied the game 4-4 on a Gabriela Banda RBI double to left center field.

The Mustangs reclaimed the lead in the seventh inning, when Monroe hit her ninth double of the season and drove home Martinez for her 22nd RBI of the season.

Saint Mary's forced extra innings as Lauren Gonzales scored when Jamison Holder ground into a double play in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Mustangs broke through in the 10th inning as Chloe Bryant delivered an RBI single up the middle that scored Paige Gallegos, but victory eluded the Mustangs as the Rattlers drew five consecutive walks in the bottom of the 10th to win the game.

The Mustangs used six pitchers. Elizabeth Uhl (1-8) took the loss, allowing two runs on three walks. Sydney Gonzales walked the only two batters she faced in the circle to close out the game.

Addison Lindemann started for the Mustangs and threw 85 pitches in four innings. She allowed three earned runs on four hits. Shyanne Florence worked two innings and allowed one run on one hit. Zoe Isom walked the two batters she faced, and Kennedy Cameron faced seven batters in relief, allowing two hits with one walk in two innings of relief.

Midwestern State left at least one runner stranded in all 10 innings as Madeline Bloom and Savannah Youngblood combined in the circle to allow six runs on 15 hits with eight walks and six strikeouts. Youngblood (9-2) allowed three runs on 10 hits with five walks over 7 2/3 innings of relief.
 

GAME 2 | Midwestern State 1, St. Mary's 9 (5 innings)

Breanna Ford threw a no-hitter for Saint Mary's in the second game of the doubleheader but walked a pair and hit two batters in five innings of work. The Rattlers also committed two errors in the game.

Gallegos scored an unearned run in the fifth inning when Breanna Dominguez reached on a throwing error by Ford.

Isom (0-4) started in the circle for MSU and allowed seven runs on one hit with five walks and four wild pitches. Cameron worked the final 1 2/3 innings and gave up two runs on two hits with four walks and two wild pitches.

Midwestern State committed five errors in the loss.
