SAN ANTONIO -- Midwestern State's
Allie Monroe belted her seventh home run of the season in the series finale Sunday afternoon at The Park at St. Mary's.
But the blast merely averted a second straight shutout for the Mustangs in a 5-1 loss to St. Mary's.
St. Mary's starting pitcher Jadyn Abrego (6-4) held MSU to three hits while striking out five to earn the win for the Rattlers before Savannah Youngblood came to pitch the final 2 2/3 innings to earn her third save of the season.
Junior catcher Jamison Holder put the Rattler out front early with an RBI-double to the left-field gap to plate Lauren Gonzales for a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Reba Reyes drilled her 10th homer of the season on a two-run shot down the left-field line to extend St. Mary's lead to 3-0 in the third inning.
The Rattlers tacked on two more in the sixth inning before Monroe sent her seventh homer over the left-field fence in the top of the seventh.
Monroe, who had a season-high four hits in the opener on Saturday, finished the series going 5-for-9 (.556) with a double and a homer.
Junior
Mikey Dominguez extended her hitting streak to three games by going 2-for-3 with a stolen base. She is now 5-for-8 with two stolen bases over her last three appearances.
Addison Lindemann (6-11) took the loss after allowing five runs on eight hits with three strikeouts over six innings.
Midwestern State (12-33, 10-26 in LSC) begins a three-game series against St. Edward's witha doubleheader Friday afternoon at noon and 2 p.m.
St. Mary's improved 27-18 overall and 22-11 in Lone Star Conference play. The Rattlers are now 14-4 on their home field this season.
