Lindemann stellar for Stangs against No. 6-ranked UT Tyler

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Freshman Addison Lindemann threw a complete-game two-hitter against No. 6-ranked UT Tyler at Mustangs Park on Saturday afternoon, but the Patriots scored two unearned runs in the sixth inning and completed a sweep of the Mustangs with a 4-3 victory in the final game of the three-game series.

Midwestern State was held to three hits in the opening game of the doubleheader on Saturday, and junior Kaylee Davis threw a complete game for the Patriots in a 12-1 triumph.

UT Tyler 12, Midwestern State 1 (Game 1)

Mikey Dominguez drilled a double down the left field line with one out in the third inning, and Kayla Bryant drove her home with a double to center field, but Davis would only allow one more hit as the Patriots dominated the second game of the series.

Davis (6-0) retired the first seven batters she faced before Dominguez broke through for the Mustangs. After Bryant's RBI double, Davis would retire the next 10 batters she faced before Allie Monroe singled to center in the seventh inning.

Davis did not walk a batter and struck out five Mustangs en route to her fifth complete game of the season.

Freshman Elizabeth Uhl (1-6) made her seventh start of the season for MSU and allowed four runs on four hits through 1 1/3 innings and took the loss. Kennedy Cameron worked 4 2/3 innings and yielded four earned runs on five hits with six walks and two strikeouts for the Stangs.

Sydney Gonzales started the seventh inning and allowed two earned runs on two hits with three walks but left the game after throwing just six of 21 pitches for strikes.

Lindemann closed out the first game, striking out two of the three batters she faced as a precursor to her performance in the nightcap.

Cassadi Mullen was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored, while JT Smith and Audrey Escamilla each had two RBIs in the victory for UT Tyler.

UT Tyler 4, Midwestern State 3 (Game 2)

Lindemann (1-8) set the tone in the nightcap by setting down the Patriots in order to start the game. The Stang Gang then scored three runs on four hits in the first inning.

After Camile Nunes drove home Kayla Bryant with a single to left field, Lindemann helped her own cause with a two run single to right field, scoring Megan Ayala and Allie Monroe. MSU held a 3-0 lead until the fourth inning.

Lindemann issued her first two walks of the game after Makayla Garcia ground out to third base to lead off the fourth inning for the Patriots. Michelle Arias hit a two-out, two-run triple to left field, but Mullen flew out to center field, and the Mustangs still led UT Tyler, 3-2, into the sixth inning.

Three errors in the sixth inning allowed the Patriots to score twice without the benefit of a hit to take the lead.

Lindemann (1-8) allowed just two earned runs on two hits with four strikeouts and three walks. The freshman from Holliday, Texas, threw 81 of 133 pitches for strikes.

Genesis Armendariz (7-3) threw five innings of relief and struck out four Mustangs with two walks and only allowed two hits for the Patriots.

Crimson Bryant allowed three earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts and two walks through the first two innings in the circle for UT Tyler.

The Patriots have a 10-game winning streak and improved to 19-5 overall with an 11-4 conference record.

Midwestern State fell to 1-7 in one-run games this season, and the Mustangs are 4-23 overall with a 2-16 record against LSC opponents.

Midwestern State is on the road to face Texas Woman's in a three-game series that begins with a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch at Dianne Baker Field is scheduled for 2 p.m. The final game of the series is slated to begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
