WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- No. 18-ranked Midwestern State lost a tightly contested dual match to No. 13-ranked Washburn at MSU Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon, 4-3.
Pavlos Parson won a first-set tiebreak against Marcal Miret-Avante at No. 6 singles and ended up with a straight-set victory to clinch the dual match for the Ichabods, 7-6 (8), 6-3. MIret completed his first singles match of the season in a dual match for the Mustangs.
Midwestern State started the day by claiming the doubles point.
Luis Diaz Argente and
Stephen Slocombe improved to 4-1 for the season with a 6-3 win over Sebastian Pjontek and Tim Hammes at No. 1 doubles.
Germano Setti and
Killian Guillou edged out Daniel Bird and Matthew Earle, 7-5, and improved to 3-3 at No. 2 doubles this season.
The first three singles matches completed on the breezy day favored the visitors from Topeka, Kansas.
No. 15-ranked Hammes defeated Setti at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-4. 22nd-ranked Santiago Rendon posted a 6-4, 7-5 victory over
Killian Guillou. Tommaso Cecchetti outlasted
Stephen Slocombe at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4.
The Ichabods led the dual match 3-1, but Diaz took the second set from No. 4-ranked Sebastian Pjontek in a tiebreak and claimed the point at No. 2 singles with a 4-6, 7-6 (8), 6-2 victory that sparked the Mustangs.
Philip Kamara remained undefeated with a 7-6 (2), 6-3 triumph over Earle at No. 5 singles to pull the Stang Gang even with Washburn, 3-3. Kamara is 6-0 to start the season for MSU.
Midwestern State hosts No. 14-ranked McKendree at MSU Tennis Center on Sunday. The dual match gets underway at 1 p.m.
