SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- No. 5-ranked Midwestern State looks to continue its recent excellent form as it visits St. Mary's on Friday for a Lone Star Conference dual match at Rohrbach Stadium Tennis Complex at 10 a.m.
Midwestern State, which is 8-3 overall this season, opened conference play at MSU Tennis Center on Wednesday and defeated Lubbock Christian in a strenuous dual match , 4-3.
Skylar Minns, a senior from Aransas Pass, Texas, clinched the victory for the Mustangs with a valiant, 6-3, 7-5 win over Maya Adler at No. 5 singles. Minns trailed 5-4 in the second set but rallied for her fifth win of the season and improved to 5-5 in singles matches.
The Mustangs swept the three doubles matches and took a 3-0 lead with wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles.
Sofia Giraldo scored a routine 6-2, 6-1 victory over Michelle Trochez at No. 4 singles. The freshman from Colombia is 7-3 in singles matches this season.
Anda Ghinga extended her season-opening winning streak in singles to 11 matches with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Jacquemin. Ghinga is 4-0 in three-set matches this season and three of her last four wins in the No. 3 position have come in extended matches.

Jessica Binzari are 6-3 in doubles matches this season with five wins coming in the No. 1 position.
MSU has won the doubles point in five dual matches this season, and has taken the opening point in four of its last five duals, including a sweep of Lubbock Christian. The Mustangs are 16-14 overall in doubles matches this season.
Hannah Yip and Sarah Mazarki have won five consecutive doubles matches, and the duo is 7-1 this season with six wins at the No. 2 position.
Yip is 6-5 in singles matches this season but has lost three straight matches in the No. 2 position after defeating 31st-ranked Maja Issler of Embry-Riddle, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Binzari, who is ranked No. 38 among NCAA Division II singles players, has played No. 1 singles in nine dual matches and is 3-6 for the Mustangs. Binzari has lost her last four singles matches after defeating Carlotta Verdu of West Florida, 6-0, 6-3.
Midwestern State is 13-7 in the all-time series with St. Mary's and snapped a three-dual losing streak with a 5-2 victory at MSU Tennis Center last season. Minns and
Sydney Williams scored victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles in the dual match last season. MSU is 0-4 all-time when visiting the Rattlers and lost their last visit, 4-1, in 2022.
St. Mary's has a five-dual winning streak and is 6-3 this season. The Rattlers have not played a dual match in the LSC.
The doubles point has belonged to St. Mary's in eight of its nine dual matches this season. The Rattlers are a combined 22-4 in doubles matches. Karen Kondo and Selina Wu are 7-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Paula Garrote and Alessia Terlizzi are also 7-1 at No. 2 doubles. Janel Ospanova and Stela Sifuentes are 6-2 at No. 3 doubles.
The Rattlers are 6-2 at No. 1 singles with Garrote posting a 3-0 record, and freshman Selina Wu is 2-2 in the No. 1 spot. Ospanova also won a match at No. 1 singles and is 5-2 overall this season.
Terlizzi and Karen Kondo have led St. Mary's to an 8-1 record at No. 3 singles, and four different players have propelled the Rattlers to a 5-2 record at No. 4 singles.
The Rattlers are 7-1 at No. 6 singles with four different women playing the position.
Midwestern State plays its final non-conference dual match of the regular season on Tuesday, when Colorado State-Pueblo visits MSU Tennis Center at 2 p.m.
