DENTON, Texas -- Junior Lauryn Davies drilled her first collegiate homer, while Texas Woman's ace Alyssa LeBlanc recorded 13 strikeouts to lead the Pioneers to a 3-1 win over Midwestern State in the series finale Monday afternoon at Dianne Baker Field.
Davies, a transfer from Arkansas-Monticello, keyed a fifth inning rally for the second straight day for the Pioneers, who improved to 16-17 on the season and 14-10 in Lone Star Conference play.
Her two-run double in Game 2 on Sunday sparked a five-run rally to help Texas Woman's to a 5-4 win and earned her a start on Monday.
Midwestern State starter
Kennedy Cameron took a no-hitter into the fifth inning, but issued a lead off walk to Delaney Boley before Piper Morton reach on a bunt single. The two runners moved up 60 feet on Makana Morton's sacrifice bunt to set up Davies' three-run blast over the left-field fence.
TWU's Callie Bailey connected on a two-out single to left field on reliever
Addison Lindemann as the Pioneers managed all three of their hits for the game during the frame.
Midwestern State jumped out to the early lead when freshman
Paige Gallegos ripped a run-scoring double to the left-field gap to plate
Allie Monroe from first base.
But LeBlanc faced one over the minimum over the remaining six innings, allowing another single by Gallegos in the fourth and a single up the middle by
Mikey Dominguez in the sixth on her way to recording a season-high 13 strikeouts and leveling her season record at 8-8 in the circle.
Gallegos closed out a stellar series at the plate, going 5-for-9 with a double, a homer, and five RBIs.
Cameron slipped to 1-6, allowing three earned runs on two hits in 4 1/3 innings before giving way to Lindemann, who allowed just one hit in 1 2/3 innings of relief.
Lindemann has allowed just a pair of earned runs in 17 2/3 innings over her last four appearances to lower her season ERA to 4.65.
Midwestern State plays host to Oklahoma Christian Friday and Saturday at Mustangs Park. The Mustangs and Eagles play a single game Friday at 6 p.m. before closing the LSC series with a doubleheader at 1 and 3 p.m. on Saturday.
