WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Oklahoma Christian used a pair of big innings to beat Midwestern State 8-0 in the Lone Star Conference series opener Friday night at Mustangs Park.
The Eagles struck for three runs in the first inning, then put away the game with five more in the seventh inning on the way to snapping three-game slide. OC improved to 19-14 on the season and 15-10 in league play.
Sophomore Jill Dickson (10-4) dealt her second complete game shutout of the season, limiting the Mustangs to three hits while recording seven strikeouts.
MSU freshman
Addison Lindemann was brilliant in a relief role, holding the Eagles to three hits in 5 1/3 innings. The Holliday native has allowed one unearned run over her last 16 innings in the circle to lower her ERA to a team-best 4.33.
However, the Eagles jumped on starter
Kennedy Cameron for three runs in the first inning, highlighted by a pair of run-scoring singles by Kadence Brewster and Grace Anderson before Kylie Janzen drew a bases loaded walk to push the advantage to 3-0.
Cameron fell to 1-7 after allowing three runs on three hits with two walks and a hit batsman in 2/3 innings.
Lindemann came on to strand the bases loaded in the both the first and second innings before finding her groove in the circle.
The Mustangs failed to cash in the third inning despite bunching all of their three hits for the game in the frame.
Myranda Jimenez led off the inning with a single to left field before
Camile Nunez laced another single to center field.
But Jimenez was unable to dodge Briana Dominguez' potential grounder of the middle and was called out after being hit by a batted ball. Dominguez reached on the single with Nunez advancing to second base before
Paige Gallegos popped out to end the threat.
Oklahoma Christian tacked on five runs with the benefit of a pair of infield singles in the seventh inning. The Eagles scored on a sacrifice bunt, a sacrifice fly, a pair of bases loaded walks, and another bases loaded hit batsman.
Kadence Brewster and Whitney Walde had two hits each for OC, while Anderson drove in a pair of runs.
Midwestern State (5-26, 3-19 LSC) has dropped its last 10 games at Mustangs Park.
The Mustangs and Eagles close the series with a twin bill on Saturday. First pitches are set for 1 and 3 p.m.
