Mustangs throttle Eastern New Mexico, 93-54

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State produced its greatest performance when it needed the most Thursday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

Twelve different players scored as the Mustangs fired in 14 3-pointers on the way to a 93-54 rout of Eastern New Mexico to snap a three-game slide.

The Mustangs improved to 13-9 on the season and to 7-9 in Lone Star Conference play. MSU stands one game back of a three-way tie for eighth place behind UT Permian Basin, Oklahoma Christian, and Texas A&M International. All three teams are 8-8.

Midwestern State limited the Hounds (14-7, 10-5) to a season-low scoring output and limited ENMU to a season worst 26-percent field goal percentage.

The 39-point margin of victory was the largest since the Mustangs beat Randall by 58 points (89-31) on December 19, 2022. It was also MSU's biggest beat down of an LSC opponent since rolling to a 99-58 win over Texas A&M International on February 1, 2020.

Midwestern State junior Pierre Sanders booked a team-high 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting with a pair of triples. He also grabbed seven rebounds and made four steals, leading four Mustangs scoring in double figures.

Junior forward Austin Lewis and Bakari LaStrap connected on three triples each to finish with 13 points, while Antwan Taylor scored 10 points off of the bench.

Sanders scored seven consecutive points to polish off a 17-2 run for the Mustangs late in the first half, expanding the lead to 21 at 39-18 with 3:52 remaining in the opening half.

Midwestern State continued to roll in the second half, opening play with another 16-1 burst to stretch the advantage to 62-36 when Antwan Taylor hit a 3 from the right corner with 11:28 to play.

The Mustangs led by as many as 41 points down the stretch.

Junior guard Tre'von Love led the Greyhounds with 17 points.

Midwestern State takes on Western New Mexico Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.
