Green has memorable Senior Day performance in 76-68 loss to TAMIU

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Nikki Green was one of seven players recognized during Senior Day ceremonies before tipoff on Saturday, and she made it a memorable day by scoring 25 points and getting four steals, but the Mustangs lost their home finale to Texas A&M International, 76-68.

Zarria Carter posted her 13th double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds. She also had seven of the 14 steals for the Mustangs, and the 6-1 junior forward from Mansfield, Texas, battled the leading scorer in the LSC throughout the afternoon.

Senior Raiana Brown led TAMIU with 24 points on 12-of-16 shooting and also grabbed 10 rebounds in the victory. Samiyah Worrell hit 5-of-9 shots from 3-point range and finished with 24 points. Worrell also dished out six assists in the victory. Malea Jackson poured in 12 points for the Dustdevils, who outrebounded the Mustangs, 46-30.

Fifth-year senior Ngozi Obineke, who transferred to TAMIU for Texas Woman's, pulled down 12 rebounds and added six points for the Dustdevils, who took a 27-19 lead in the first quarter. TAMIU shot 55 percent in the opening period and hit 3-of-4 shots from 3-point range in the opening 10 minutes.

Midwestern State trailed at halftime, 40-34, and Green had 14 points at intermission.

TAMIU outscored the Mustangs in the second half, 36-34, and improved to 23-6 with a 15-6 record in the Lone Star Conference. Midwestern State fell to 7-20 with a 7-14 conference record.

Makayla Coy grabbed 10 rebounds in her final home game at MSU, and Keara Felix scored a season-high 10 points in her final appearance at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Fifth-year senior Kertisa Amos was held to seven points in her final game in front of the home crowd, which included more than 200 airmen and airwomen from Sheppard Air Force Base for Military Appreciation Day.

Eternity Jackson from Burkburnett, Texas, played in her 120th game as a Mustang and was joined by long-time teammates Markayla Johnson and Maya Kendall in the pregame Senior Day ceremony.

The Mustangs also recognized the contributions of graduate assistant Madelyne Denslow, who has been working with the coaching staff for the last two seasons.

Midwestern State will play its final game of the season on Thursday night in a renewal of the Red River Rivalry. The Mustangs visit Cameron and tip-off at Aggie Gym in Lawton, Oklahoma, is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
