LAWTON, Okla. -- Cameron's Katie King poured in a game-high 29 points in the season finale Thursday night at Aggie Gym.
But it was her steal and layup off of Midwestern State's inbound pass with 32 seconds left that sealed the Aggies' 76-71 win over the Mustangs.
Cameron closed the season at 11-17, while the Mustangs end the first year of the
Brenita Jackson era at 7-21. MSU improved five places over last season to 11th in the Lone Star Conference standings with three more league wins.
MSU junior
Nikki Green peeled off her fourth 20-point performance by going 9-of-18 from the field with four 3-pointers to finish.
The Mustangs made a late charge to overcome a nine-point deficit midway through the fourth period, using a 10-2 run keyed by three buckets by
Zarria Carter to narrow the gap to 70-69 with 2:19 to go.
But the Aggies converted four free throws saddled around King's steal and layup as Cameron pulled away.
MSU senior
Kertisa Amos delivered her third double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Carter finished with 11 points and five rebounds.
Junior Korie Allensworth added 20 points and eight rebounds for the Aggies, while junior forward Shamica Smith connected on 6-of-7 shots from the floor on her way to a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Seniors
Eternity Jackson,
Makayla Coy, and
Keara Felix competed in their final game as a Mustang along with Amos and Green.
