SAN ANGELO, Texas -- Midwestern State's
Kennedy Cameron and
Zoe Isom combined on a one-hitter, while
Mikey Dominguez led the Mustangs with two hits in their Lone Star Conference opener Thursday night at Mayer Field.
But Angelo State hitters drew seven walks and took advantage of four hit batsmen to score a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to come away with a 3-0 win.
The Rambelles extended their winning streak to six games to improve to 10-1, while Midwestern suffered its fourth-straight setback to drop to 2-8.
Angelo State's Zoe DeBaca drove in a run with a two-out single to left field for the first run of the game in the fourth.
The Rambelles sent seven batters to the plate in the fifth inning and cashed in for two runs on four walks and hit batsman with Tatianna Trotter driving in a run on a fielder's choice and Carter Smith forced home another with a bases loaded walk.
Cheyenne Floyd improved to 7-0 in the circle, allowing six hits over six innings with six strikeouts. Matie Walkow came on to pitch a scoreless seventh inning to notch her third save of the season.
Dominguez posted her first multi-hit game to lead the Mustangs' six-hit attack, while
Allie Monroe extended a pair of season-best streaks with an infield single in the sixth inning. The sophomore from Lawton has now reached base in 10 consecutive game while stretcher her hitting streak to six games.
Camile Nunez,
Paige Gallegos, and
Myranda Jimenez also recorded hits for the the Mustangs.
Kennedy Cameron (0-2) took the loss in the circle, allowing one run on one hit in 5 1/3 innings. She issued five walks and notched five strikeouts.
Midwestern State and Angelo State close the series with a doubleheader Friday afternoon at Mayer Field. First pitches are set for 12:30 and 2:45 p.m.
