Mustangs finish 15th at NCAA Division II South Central Regionals

DENVER -- Midwestern State raced to a 15th-place finish in the NCAA Division II South Central Region Championships Saturday afternoon on a snowy course at Washington Park.

Junior Ella Pando enjoyed her best finish at an regional event by finishing 73rd, finishing the 6,000-meter course in 24:20.93. She entered the chute first for the Mustangs for the fifth time this season and for the 12th time of her career.

MSU's countable finishers came across with a gap time of 46 seconds with junior Jadyn Dangerifield placing 82nd with a time of 24:39.50 followed by junior Rosalene Reyes Perez (25:00.37/92nd), senior Nathalia Escontrias (25:06.27/94th), and sophomore Jaycee Lyons (25:32.53/109th).

Freshman Grace Pineda (26:08.38) and junior Mariana Sanchez (26:49.73) also placed 127th and 145th, respectively, for the Mustangs.

Overall, MSU amassed 446 points as the fifth-best side out of the LSC with West Texas A&M finishing with with 136 points followed by Dallas Baptist (292/10th), Oklahoma Christian (316/11th), and Cameron (436/14th).

Adams State claimed the team championship with a total of 37. The Grizzlies earned an automatic qualification into the NCAA Division II Championships set for November 23 at the Arcade Creek Cross Country Course in Sacramento, California, along with the second- and third-place finishers -- Colorado School of Mines (75 points) and UC Colorado Springs (120 points).

Adams State's Tristian Spence was the individual winner, entering the chute in 21:18.56 to edge out UC Colorado Springs' Anna Fauske (21:20.68).
