Mustangs set for Lone Star Conference Championship

KINGSVILLE, Texas -- Midwestern State competes in the Lone Star Conference Championship Saturday morning at Dick Kleberg Park. The 6,000-meter race begins at 9:45 a.m.

The top 15 finishers at the LSC Championship earn all-conference honors, while the top finishing freshman and newcomer also earn accolades.

Midwestern State boasts 21 all-LSC performers since bringing back cross country in 2006. Former standout Ashley Flores earned all-league honors in each of her four seasons of competition, while Amerhyst Woolf, Sara Smith, Michelle, Krezonoski, and Janel Campbell were three-time recipients.

The Mustangs boast a deep, rich history competing in the LSC Championship. MSU claimed four consecutive league titles in 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011, then added championships in alternating, even-numbered years in 2014, 2016, and 2018. Midwestern claimed a South Central Region title in 2011 and battled to national finishes of 15th in 2008, 17th in 2010, and 11th in 2011.

Midwestern State harriers have claimed three individual LSC titles, including Sydnee Cole (2009), Brissia Montalvo (2011), and Kayleigh Jarrett (2017).

This season, the Mustangs boast an impressive .836 finish percentage with one win and two runner-up finishes over five meets.

Junior Ella Pando was the first Mustangs to finish in each of her three meets this season. The Weatherford, Texas, native finished second overall at the Our Lady of the Lake Westside Classic (6k), third at the Mustang Derby (4k), and was 36th in the DBU's Old Glory Gallop.

Senior Nathalia Escontrias was the MSU frontrunner at the season opening Aggie Duels (5K) and was MSU's No. 2 finisher at the DBU Old Glory Gallop, while junior Jadyn Dangerfield produced team countable finishes in each of her three meets this season.

Freshman Grace Pineda has also turned in three team countable showings in the Mustang Derby, DBU Old Glory Gallop, and OLLU Westside Classic.
