Mustangs take third at Lone Star Conference Championship

Pando earns all-conference honros for second-straight year

KINGSVILLE, Texas -- Midwestern State battled to a third-place finish Saturday morning in the Lone Star Conference Championship at Dick Kleberg Park.

Junior Ella Pando earned all-conference honors for the second consecutive year by finishing 13th, completing the 6,000-meter course in 21:58.87.

The Mustangs worked a gap time of 1:09 to amass 113 points with junior Jadyn Dangerfield finishing 17th with a tine of 22:22.45, freshman Grace Pineda placing 22nd with a time of 22:43.63, junior Lula Nolen placing 32nd with a time of 23:05.80, and junior Rosalene Reyes Perez finishing 34th with a time of 23:07.65.

West Texas A&M narrowly missed out on a perfect score with 17 points. The Lady Buff harriers placed first, second, third, fifth, sixth, and eighth.

WT's Sarah Koomson claimed the individual title with a time of 20:32.16, while third-place finishing Kalkidan Vincendeau was the LSC Freshman of the Year with a time of 20:54.30.

Dallas Baptist finished as runner-up with 70 points followed by MSU, St. Edward's (145), Oklahoma Christian (150), Texas A&M-Kingsville (157), Cameron (159), UT Tyler (181), Angelo State (256), Lubbock Christian (281), Western New Mexico (308), Texas A&M International (350), and UT Permian Basin (407).

Senior Natalia Escontrias (23:17.74/38th) and sophomore Jaycee Lyons (23:37.84/49th) were the Mustangs sixth and seventh runners followed by Perla Flores (24:07.95/64th), Mariana Sanchez (24:09.72/65th), and Isabel Hernandez (24:36.37/73rd).

Midwestern State competes in the NCAA Division II South Central Regionals on Saturday, November 9 at Washington Park in Denver.
